Births have outpaced immigration as the driving force behind the increase in the Mexican-American population in the United States in the past 10 years, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

Births to women of Mexican origin accounted for 63 percent of the 11.2 million-person increase in the Mexican-American population in the last decade, according to the report, titled The Mexican-American Boom: Births Overtake Immigration.
