EPA Cover-Up

Here's what I wrote in last year's column titled "Global Warming Rope-a-Dope" (12/24/2008): "Once laws are written, they are very difficult, if not impossible, to repeal. If a time would ever come when the permafrost returns to northern U.S., as far south as New Jersey as it once did, it's not inconceivable that Congress, caught in the grip of the global warming zealots, would keep all the laws on the books they wrote in the name of fighting global warming. Personally, I would not put it past them to write more." On June 28, 2009, the House of Representatives, by a narrow margin (219-212), passed the Waxman-Markey bill. The so-called "cap and trade" bill has been sold as a system for cutting greenhouse gas emissions in the struggle against global warming. There's a full-court press on the U.S. Senate to pass its version of "cap and trade."

"Cap and trade" is first a massive indirect tax on the American people and hence another source of revenue for Congress. More importantly "cap and trade" is just about the most effective tool for controlling most economic activity short of openly declaring ourselves a communist nation and it's a radical environmentalist's dream come true.

So why the rush and the press on the Senate? Increasing evidence is emerging that far from there being global warming, the Earth has been cooling and has been doing so for 10 years. Prominent atmospheric scientists have recently sent a letter to Congress saying, "You are being deceived about global warming. ... The Earth has been cooling for ten years. ... The present cooling was not predicted by the alarmists' computer models." Last March, more than 700 international scientists went on record dissenting over manmade global warming claims. About 31,500 American scientists, including 9,029 with Ph.D.s, have signed a petition, that in part reads, "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate."

The Obama administration's EPA sees the increasing evidence against global warming as a threat to their agenda and has taken desperate measures. About a week before the House vote on "cap and trade," the Washington, D.C.-based Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) released some EPA e-mails, demonstrating that an internal report by Alan Carlin, a 35-year career EPA analyst, criticizing EPA's position on global warming, had been squelched for political reasons.

that the fed'ral gov't has the right to operate an EPA and to delegate lawmaking authority to it?

Would you take advice from experts in this field? All with different agenda's intern different opinions supported by different facts. Go past this topic, we should push ourselves irregardless of the conclusions put forth. In fifty years from now we will laugh of how ineffecient, costly, bad for the enviroment the systems we have today were.
To increase our own personal longevity, we must put our thoughts into thinking radically to push our inventions that help spurn our longevity.

The Obama administration is by far one of the most corrupt regimes to take up residence in D.C. Their "transparency" has been a bit opaque. Everything is done under cover and pushed through before anybody has time to read or consider what they are agreeing to. When the earth is destroyed it will be done by God - not global warming.

Isn't it about time someone convenes an unbiased group of scientists to address the following questions in a truly honest manner.
1. Do we have global warming or cooling or neither?
2. If something is really happening is it man-made or from natural causes?
3. Again, if something is really happening, what are the future consequences?
Their conclusions should be based on empirical evidence not consensus.

I will check into The Overreacher and Christopher Marlowe's work as well.

Of course I've known for years about Goldwater's Conscience of a Conservative but somehow never took the time to read it; I'll have to do something about that.

And I understand from others that Imprimus, of Hillsdale College, presents strong conservative arguments; my sister subscribes.

There is certainly no lack of solid conservative writing if one knows where to find it and avails himself of the opportunities presented.

Thank you for you valuable input.

Thanks for the link. I looked at it briefly and have bookmarked it. Most of my study of politics has been in the print media, including my longtime subscription to Imprimis and many books.

BTW, have you read Goldwater's The Conscience of a Conservative? After reading that one in college in the 1960's, I was never able to think of government without picturing the layers of bureaucracy, the fruitless expensive programs, and the arrogance of office that characterize the entire liberal agenda, and I was easily able to predict the costly failures that have since occurred and are evidently going to continue occurring at much greater cost to all of us.

Yes, the Bloodless Revolution that put William and Mary on the throne in 1688 was far preferable to the earlier civil war brought on by the arrogance of Charles I and the intractability of the Puritans.

There's an entire study of "overreaching" in the works of Christopher Marlowe. The book, entitled The Overreacher and written by Harry Levin, provides a cautionary paradigm for all political leaders who think they are high up in the catbird seat and can do anything they want.

One humorist--I forget his name at the moment--warned leaders,
'No matter how high a man sits, he still sits on his own bottom."

When you wander on over to the Claremont Institute website, be sure not to miss this:

http://www.claremont.org/publications/pageid.2629/default.a sp

A review, probably, of progressive-ism in America, of which you are already familiar.

Funny how the more things change the more they stay the same. I'm thinking of James 2nd's overreach in England between 1685 and 1688; he seems to have shot himself in the foot.

We should be so lucky as for America to have a similar outcome as did GB in unloading the abhorent James II.

It appears that my beloved and one time professor, Walter E. Williams, has gone from Economist to Reporter.

This piece on the EPA cover-up is presented in a new and interesting writing style outside of his typical topical approach.

Though his signature, "Mr. Williams you say..." bit is notably absent, as is his "in your face" commentary, the issue is presented clearly and concisely. In fact, after reading it you realize that the evidence speaks for itself and requires no further analysis.

Enjoy.

I am in Minnesota - near Twin Cities - and we are having one of the coolest summers in about 20 some years. Today the high hasn't reached 70- tomorrow we might get to 65. Crops were late and we need much more heat for them to do well. In the northern part of the state - Brainerd area where tourist flock - they are worse than we are. Tourism is down and the weather is the kicker for people enjoying lakes. Global warming is a myth - weather cycles continually and is not predictable. Our weather forecasters are a good example. We are foolish to pursue such a politically embellished plan to "prevent" further warming. I need a jacket. Lynn Betts

That's from an old TV Commercial of some sort!! I grew up in the 40s-50s and waded snow up my hind-end getting to the Bus Stop (1 Country Mile)to go to school. Same Country; few years later: Butchered 3 hogs at Thanksgiving..HOT Temps made it imperative to can or smoke Meat to prevent spoilage..16 years later" Worst Blizzard(s) No.Dak. had ever recorded Mid March..Frankly, I'm much more concerned about the "Elapsing Time" theory!! GUESS WHAT?? Can't do a Damned thing about EITHER ONE.."ITS NOT NICE TO FOOL MOTHER NATURE"..CHEERS

I'll check out that Claremont web site. BTW, I once heard Russell Kirk in person at Illinois State U. That was way back when conservatives were permitted to speak on college campuses without being shouted down and vilified by rude, crude, know-nothing liberal troglodytes.

I own and have read Thomas Sowell's The Vision of the Anointed; but if I've read A Conflict of Visions, I don't remember for sure since I can't find it in my library (I think I must have loaned it out -- the ppback cover, at Amazon, looks very familiar).

At any rate, I recommend The Claremont Institute's website as as additional source of solid conservative writings and opinions.

The best defense is a good offense -- as the saying goes.

"I'm afraid we will have to go outside of the political process to take our country back, but I am willing to go in that direction if necessary."

That is why the founders gave us the second amendment.

I agree with you but I think maybe we're both a little naive to think any court this case would end up in would be anything other than the kangeroo version.

Let's not forget that when the Clean Air Act's provisions went before the Supremes, they ruled in their incalculable reasoning, that CO2 was a pollutant rather than one of the most essential life-giving elements on earth.

I don't think I've ever felt more helpless in my life than as of late. The Dems, thanks to the utter incompetence of Bush and the previous Repukes in Congress, are now in a position to ram everything they want down our throats. Even if we can take power back in a couple of years they will have an infrastructure in place almost impossible to draw back.

I think the Left is consolidating its power, herding our country's once proud freedom loving people into a coral, building an impenetrable moat around political institutions and processes, and guaranteeing themselves power in perpetuity.

I'm afraid we will have to go outside of the political process to take our country back, but I am willing to go in that direction if necessary.

Read the book:"The Resilient Earth"
by Hoffman and Simmons. They take Gore and the UN apart with facts and science. Great book for everyone to learn the scientific truth. Find if on http://www.theresilientearth.com

Common Sense: "...interested men, who are not to be trusted, weak men who CANNOT see, prejudiced men who will not see, and a certain set of moderate men who think better of the European world than it deserves; and this last class, by an ill-judged deliberation, will be the cause of more calamities to this continent that all the other three."

Even in the 1700's, we had the same probematic people as we have today. It's the circle of life that, like history, just keeps repeating itself.

is nothing more than an additional tax on the working class. Anyone who thinks that taxing the rich will pay for this debacle is living in a dream world and had better wake up. The rich can easily hide their income through all sorts of sleights of hand. I swear it's like I'm living in that creepy 1960 movie Village of the Damned, and Obama is one of those zombie-like children. You remember, the movie where those mysterious kids could control others and create havoc and chaos with the power of their minds. It seems that Obama has that same power and he is intent on using it to the destruction of this country.

Of course the EPA wants to have the endangerment finding. It expands their power into all aspects of our economy. It is also a back up plan in case cap and defraud doesn't make it past the senate.

As far as trying people for treason for using coal based energy, bring it on. It would actually bring the power to force a debate. So far the warmers won't stand up for a debate. It wouldn't take long under the rules of evidence and under cross examination to shame them and expose them for the kooks and frauds that they are.

1. I've written this before on this blog:
Propose a law or an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that makes it illegal to mandate that citizens must take a flu shot that has no long term studies of its positive effectiveness.

2. Propose a law or an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that mandates and requires that all applicants including incumbants and present U.S. Presidents who have failed to provide Proof of U.S. natural born citizenship to We The People as required by Article II include the words "retroactive" and "incumbant."

3. Propose a law or an amendement to the U.S. Constitution that eliminates taxes for all public servants from the U.S. President on down for private healthcare, especially if they legislate a government option or government healthcare program which they must be required to use or pay for their own healthcare saving taxpayers billions of tax dollars which would stimulate the economy.

4. Propose a law or an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would freeze the salaries of all public servants during an economic crisis, especially while people are losing their jobs.

It has never been about global warming.
This is about global power.
Destroying the United States economy will allow a one world government to be set up. I'm guessing the way OBAMA is always out there campaigning that he thinks he is the ONE. Then of course we will have UTOPIA. You know when the moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter aligns with Mars. Then peace will guide our planet. All that stuff.

The Conservative Mind is a good read. So is Thomas Sowell's A Conflict of Visions, which gives detailed, strongly documented examples of two kinds of vision--the constrained (represented by Burke and many others) and the unconstrained (represented by William Godwin and many others). The Current Occupant of the White House clearly has an unconstrained vision, and that fact has consequences.

Whether one of the consequences is his ouster from office in some sort of agonized national upheaval remains to be seen.

From balanced, 7:10pm est:

"And, Russel[l] Kirk wasn't talking about Obama"

YES HE WAS, in his exposition of Burke's political philosophy, indeed, writing about THE MINDSET OF A PARTICULAR TYPE of political thinking of which Obama himself self-identifies:

HOPE AND CHANGE. Remember? In Obama's own mantra he places himself inside this category that earlier writers have described.

It matters not at all that Kirk and Burke(ca.20th cent, and 19th cent. respectively) wrote prior to the ascendancy of Obama. They described a TYPE that is universally true of those with a certain way of looking at a particular theory of government.

Read the book for further enlightenment: The Conservative Mind: From Burke to Eliot, by Russell Kirk.

I heartily recommend it to all.

OlGrumpy asks, "Anyone got any idea why O'Reilly has gone on the whacko reservation on this issue?"

My guess is that he is simply a Populist. He seems to enjoy obfuscating "Global Warming" with "Man-made Global Warming". You know, like those that like obfuscating "Immigrants" with "Illegal Immigrants". Good grief!

The earth is in a constant flux, almost rhythemicly breathing hot, then cold, then hot, then cold. The Al Gore's of the world like to project humanity into everything: their pets love them; their cars love them; vulcanos erupt because earth is angry at us; ... etc.

Maybe, to save the planet, we should just sacrafice Al Gore, et al., into the vulcanos and the earth gods will be at peace?
