Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Professional politicians and political journalists don't waste energy on political corpses. They reserve their energy -- positive or negative -- for viable politicians.

Thus, an intriguing part of the Sarah Palin phenomenon is the intensity of response to her every word and move -- from both Republican Party and Democratic Party professionals and from the conventional media. The negative but sustained passion being expressed by the professional Washington political class against her tends to belie its almost unanimous assertion that she is washed-up.

I happened to be on CNN Friday just as the story was breaking of Palin's resignation as governor of Alaska, and for the next hour, I was the only on-air guest -- Republican, Democrat, journalist, politician -- who was not overtly contemptuous and dismissive of Palin and her political future. On Sunday, as a panelist on ABC's "This Week," I was similarly situated.

What is it about Palin that elicits such furious bipartisan Washington dismissiveness? After all, the polls show her to be tied with Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee for the very early lead in the 2012 Republican primary. As an outspoken conservative with about an 80 percent favorable rating among Republicans and a high-40s percentage favorable plurality among independents, objectively she should be seen as quite competitive nationally compared with other Republicans, particularly given that Republicans are generically weak and that she has been targeted so viciously by the media.

Palin draws by far the biggest crowds of any current politician, other than, perhaps, the president. She was the only news phenomenon capable of knocking the Michael Jackson story off the cable news lineups. Impressively, while George W. Bush was able to elicit a Bush derangement syndrome from liberal Democrats and President Barack Obama has succeeded similarly with many conservatives, only Sarah Palin has induced simultaneous derangement from both Republican and Democratic professionals.

At a time when governments around the world -- left, right and center -- are failing to gain public confidence and even the winning Democratic Party in the U.S. struggles to match independents for the leading political category (while the Republican Party struggles to get to 25 to 30 percent market share), it might behoove those same party professionals who have been failing to connect their parties to the public to pause before calling Sarah Palin an incompetent politician. Conventional wisdom may not be reliable in unconventional times -- or for unconventional politicians.

For instance, as the story was breaking Friday, fellow politically professional panelists were pointing out on-air how stupid Palin was to put forward her big story on a late Friday afternoon during a three-day holiday weekend. Everyone "knows" one buries a story that way. It became my grim duty to remind my fellow interlocutors -- in case they had not noticed -- that all the cable news shows were dropping their programming to switch to wall-to-wall coverage of the Palin announcement and that we were, at that moment, telling a national audience that the story we were talking about was being buried. The story persisted and expanded over the weekend, and my guess is that if any political topic came up at America's millions of Fourth of July backyard barbecue parties, it was probably Sarah Palin. So, who's the fool?

Well, I have had the honor of working for two politicians before they rose to their heights (as well as during their heights) -- Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich. And though they were vastly different men, both of them were considered, for different reasons, beyond the political pale in their earlier political years. If only Ronald Reagan could behave more like George Herbert Walker Bush and if only Newt Gingrich could behave more like Bob Michel, maybe they could succeed better at elective politics.

So, last weekend, the professionals were sneering confidently that Palin had made a fatal mistake by giving up the governorship of Alaska, because everyone knows that an aspiring candidate for higher office clings to his or her current office while running for the next one.

Well, I'm not so sure that being an incumbent is an advantage if the world seems to be going to hell and government is seen to be at least part of the cause for that journey. And though many conventional politicians might be seen as quitters if they resigned their offices, I have a very strong hunch that Sarah Palin is constitutionally incapable of being seen as a quitter. Because she is not. She constantly is taking on the biggest challenge on her horizon.

Now, I am not endorsing her, predicting she will run, or predicting she is likely to win if she runs. Let's wait a couple of years before getting to those questions. If President Obama is seen by the public to be a great success as president in 2012, he probably will be re-elected.

But if he is not seen as a great success, the public may be looking for a straight-talking candidate from the heartland who calls for and truly believes in limited government, maximum personal freedom and fiscal responsibility.

People may be listening for someone who knows how to talk to them rather than at them or down to them.

They also may respond favorably to a candidate who does not respond favorably to the Washington political class -- nor it to her.

dim libs and Rinos
Just like their media cohorts are so out of touch with real Americans. Now that they see Oblaba's "hope" and "change" scam up close and pushing fast (just like a huckster) they are getting a heavy dose of buyer's remorse.

Once the inevitable inflation, energy tax and shamnesty hits the centrist obfuscations for 2010 will fall on deaf ears. And Sarah will be the conservative nailing them on every failure and leading the revolution.

Sarah, the Enigma
I had been following her before the VP nom and was totally excited McCain chose her. I thought she would cause him to win. I loved her story and her convention speech was electrifying, to use the word that has now become trite.

It was disappointing to realize that when she spoke off the cuff, her sentences actually made no sense. In fact, they weren't sentences at all. Disjointed speaking belied disjointed thinking, IMO.

But her recent resignation makes perfect sense to me. Before the election, apparently she was able to work very well with AK Dems. But her spectacular convention speech and huge crowds led the national Dems to instruct AK to obstruct any gubernatorial accomplishments at all cost.

Quadruple-teamed and hitting a brick wall, why hang on, accomplish nothing, rack up bills both personally and for the state and put her family through hell?

Now she's free to do and say whatever. It will be fun to watch.

She is a huge danger to the Pubs though. Her base is big enough to cause trouble but not big enough to win. It will be interesting to see if she can expand it by settling down and working on her syntax.

Don't know that she will though.

The obvious.

After forcing myself to read most of the Palin threads here on TH, including the one on the insightful Sandy Rios column, one thing became crystal clear... and totally unmistakable.

The left is absolutely terrified of Sarah Palin!!!

But I have a dream... and one that also happens to coincide with most of main-stream America.

That Sarah Palin would take this time to earn some serious money for herself... to cover her legal bills, and to secure her family financially.

That she would go on conservative media programs and the lecture circuit to build and refine her message, while also campaigning for candidates everywhere to raise big money and collect a stack of I.O.U.'s.

And that she would seek out the councel of the best issue-people around (who would gladly accept), to sharpen those long knives... the ones that she will and most definately should use later on.

But 2012 will not be the right time. That will be Mitt Romney's year. Sorry to break the news, but the Obama is gone after one term.

But then.

What I and countless others would give to see Sarah Palin come back in 2016 or 2020, when her children are grown...

...and stick it to the left

...and all those nice people who hounded her family and hurt her kids.

But here's the most amazing part. Sarah Palin would NEVER have to lower herself to their level.

She would only have to be herself.

And the left knows it.

Can I have some, scottK? (Also K.G.)
... of what you're smokin'?

"The left is absolutely terrified of Sarah Palin!!!"

Who can know the minds of others? But I tell you as libertarian conservative that *I* am terrified by Sarah Palin. Why?

Because of what K.G. correctly states: "She is a huge danger to the Pubs though. Her base is big enough to cause trouble but not big enough to win."

We need a fiscally conservative, socially liberal secular republican candidate who can think. Palin (and Huckabeen and the other xian fascists) are not that candidate.

K.G.
What did you say?

Maybe you could ask Sarah to help you get your point across

As usual...
... an excellent analysis from Mr Blankley.

"Like Kuneytzov the clear sighted
she retreats in order to advance.”?

Imagine how Sarah Palin can strike fear now.

The manner in which she and her family have been drawn and quartered for poor character sport has been abhorrent. Regrettably, one can't unleash on others when you've a position of responsibility in our society.

The crotch level insults against her and her family by MSM marginals and ‘audience share and ratings hunters’ such as Letterman, Andrew Sullivan, Kathleen Parker, Sally Quinn and the also rans at HuffPo, were free, face punches until Palin’s statement of demarche.

I'd suspect that unleashed, Ms. Palin will now be able to throat punch some hostiles.

All in all, the left saw her good manners and constraints and abused it.

Wherever Sarah Plain now fixes her gaze, I hope she is strong and resolute.

For she has become the target of every media marginal that curries favor with the American left along with some D.C. loitering, weak sisters that serve as Republican touts.

Payback may come via huge speaking engagements, favorable popular sentiment and a woman that will be able to confront low brow citizens such as Andrew Sullivan without the strictures of her office.

Back in the 1950’s headlines read, “Ike unleashes Chaing Kai-shek.” It was fanciful and lead to nothing as the die was cast and Kemoy and Matsu weren’t enough to jump for.

Sarah Palin’s leash has been her civility, her sense of office and its requirements. Sarah has taken off her leash without assistance from the National Party or any overlord.

This is an unleashing that belongs to the sole proprietor. Such an unthethering is the freedom to slip constraints and take on the vile, the vulgar and the venial.

Whatever her intentions, she's due support from those of us that consider ourselves dignified Americans with notions of right and wrong and the difference between the proper and the grotesque.

Ms. Palin now comes announced and expected. Tremble faux chic.

Indeed
Being harshly criticized by people who elect Al Franken, Barney Frank, Obama, and all the other sordid criminals, Republican and Democrat, is the best proof that she is exactly what we need.

I hope she rapes all her critics with a huge political strap-on, including that back stabbing, low life cowardly jealous dried up old woman John McCain who used her and betrayed her. He may have shown courage once in his life, but he sold his soul and his honor when he turned into just another political prostitute. Now he's merely among the ranks of Al Franken, just another joker.

If Sarah Palin runs for office again, I will gladly work for her and I will kill if she asks me to. Any man who doesn't feel likewise is gay!

Thanks Tony
Glad you are on this side of the pond for good. You have an insight lacking in the regular beltway bunch. thanks

The Republicans
both elected and talking heads better be careful. If they continue their constant criticism and sneering at Palin they are going to put an end to the Republican party altogether. Palin doesn't have to be your choice -- I'm not sure she would be my choice -- but the constant contempt directed at her by Washington insiders only alienates a substantial percentage of Republican voters.

It became clear to me during the election that self-professed Republicans and conservatives inside the beltway want me to vote for who they tell me to vote for and then shut up and accept the leadership of my betters. Honestly, I am disgusted with anyone who is inside the beltway or admired by those would be elitists.

I'm to the point where I'd probably vote for any small business owner over anyone either party or the media of either ideological persuasion puts up for any elective office.

I will say this for Palin she is attractive because the Washington insiders despise her and more and more everyday Americans are beginning to despise them. The enemy of my enemy...

WHAT REPUBLICANS ??
The Reps. like Mccain have shown their true colors regarding Palin. Mccain while a hell of a man in what he went thru is still a petty politician. He brought Palin on BECAUSE he was behind and she JUICED the base far far beyond his expectations. This burned him and the party that this upstart could outdraw the party leader in such hugh numbers, thus the sniping by all of them. I am a conservative who was not voting in the last election. I do not believe that I have to choose betweent the lesser of two evils. Palin changed my mind and SHE GOT MY VOTE.

The left ARE scared to death of her
because she is the polar opposite of Il Duce.

The repubs are put off because she has more guts than they do and calls it like she sees it....like WE do. She makes many of them look like girly men.

She was a big boost to JSM until the fools who were advising him muzzeled her for fear of alienating what few dems might vote for him.

Whoever was advising McCain lost the election for him on the day they voted for the TARP bill.

Sarah needs to assemble a think tank as I said the other day, get Sowell, Williams, Petreaus etal, folks that actually have a clue and run on a platform of returning this country to the constitutional values it was founded on.

THAT's what they're ALL afraid of....their gravy train getting de-railed and them having to get real jobs.

I hope Tom Sullivan was wrong
It could just be that Sarah is accepting a higher calling: "Mom". There must come a point amidst the constant defilement and ad-hominems against her and all members of her family that she has to ask herself "is it worth it?". She has the potential to be America's Lady Thatcher, but the personal price would be high (as the talking heads on both sides continue their attack). I don't know which way I'd go in her situation.

Ominous
It might be another disaster for Repubs in 2012 if the three candidates mentioned by Blankley divide the conservatives again, allowing some RINO to slip through with the nominaton. That's how we ended up with McCain. I voted for him, but I was very unenthusiastic, especially after he seemed during the campaign not to know what he believed in.

If conservatives can't settle on any one candidate, and some go for Palin, some for Romney, and some for Huckabee, we are doomed.

I am still furious with Huckabee for his continued determination to stop Romney. Romney is a fine candidate with Presidential stature and an incredible resume. He is the one Republican who could pull in independents, because of his economic acumen. His being a Mormon didn't affect the Massachusetts voters. It never came up.

Huckabee is NOT going to win over many independents or the country club Republicans and sophisticates in our party, because as a Baptist minister, he is seen as the candidate of the mostly southern religious right. He is an appealing guy, but compared to Romney, he seems too folksy.

Palin is a star, and she may come on strong, but it's very hard to overcome all that SNL image created by Tina Fey. So unfair, but we can't live in denial. Those impressions are in the minds of millions of Americans.

Thanks Stilla
For your assessment of Mitt Romney, who is far and away the most qualified and electable candidate the Republicans could offer in 2012.

If the economy continues to suffer, Romney's economic acumen will be the straw that broke the camel's back for big government promoters.

Palin is a cult of personality and novelty candidate. Romney is an actual proven leader and administrator, as well as having no personal baggage to weigh him down, unless you consider being a Mormon baggage, in which case you should be ashamed of yourself.

She has Guts
Sarah is a gutsy woman to say the least! I give her credit for doing what is right for her State, and her family, even if it wasnt popular! She was spending 80% of her time fighting ethics violation accusations, and tons of her own money defending herself. This isnt good for Alaska or her family! She isnt a wealthy woman and has children to take care of! She is willing to stand up to the establishment her and Ron Paul should team up, they would storm America! Thats what all the pundits are worried about!!!! Go Sarah!

Sara!
I am so tired of the MSM, Politicians from both parties, and talking heads ranting their lies, propaganda, stealing of the publics monies, and just general BS.

When 99% of everything the MSM, Politicians from both parties, talking heads, and outright theives say about Sara Palin is bad--you should automatically know there must be something very good there they are trying to destroy.

ABC's Roundtable
I saw Tony this past Sunday morning on ABC and he was like a pilgrim in an unholy land.

Mr. Vanity Fair was there trying to act like he belonged and pretending that his 'hit-piece' on Sarah Palin passed for real journalism, along with some of the other usual suspects.

It never ceases to amaze me that in any of these stories about Sarah Palin, NONE of the Republican 'sources' have actual names....at best they are always refered to as working on Mr. X's staff, etc.

After 8 months since the election don't you think that the same people who were able to discover everything you'd ever want to know about Joe the Plumber in less than 48 hours would be able to produce ONE actual name by now?

From 'It Came From Wasilla by Todd Purdum

“Remember,” says Lyda Green, a former Republican state senator who once represented Palin’s home district, and who over the years went from being a supporter of Palin’s to a bitter foe, “her nickname in high school was ‘Barracuda.’ I was never called Barracuda. Were you? There’s a certain instinct there that you go for the jugular.”

That's the only named source in the entire 50,000 word article....talking about her nickname...whoop-ti-doo.

Let me sum up the truth about Sarah Palin with some ancient words of wisdom..."Only the fruited tree is shaken for food."

Does anybody think for a minute that we'd be talking about Barack 'Present' Obama 8 months after the election if he'd have lost?

Enough said.

Sarah Palin

Interesting to note that the Washington "experts" of all stripes (actually they mostly all have the same stripes) hate Ms Palin and in hating her hate what she stands for-a person who sees the Washington cesspool for what it is and is unwilling to jump in with the fellow travelers.

Such visceral hate can only be generated by fear that the American people will see them for what they are and throw the whole gang of freeloaders out. Otherwise they would hate McCain and his mob for McCain's miserable campaign

They should not fear. They will find that honesty and hard work are good for the soul. Pack it in guys and gals.

To all the Mitt Romney trolls...
Just who is the person who has been behind all the John McCain staffers anonymous quotes trashing Sarah Palin?

Mitt is a closet liberal and the average working person is no more conned by him then they were by George Bush senior. He has zero chance of winning the Presidency now or ever and the only ones who claim he does are those same anonymous ex McCain staffers looking for a lifeline to save their careers.

In 1980 you could get in a fist fight in a bar for criticizing Ronald Reagan. If you mention George Bush the senior the bar would break out laughing. Same today. Ain't nobody going to take a punch at you regarding Mitt Romney, unless he is a Massachusetts small businessman who has been pushed to the brink of bankruptcy by Mitt's Healtcare reform. Mess with Sarah or her kids and the traffic crossing guard at your kids school might punch you out.Think about it.

Stilla
SNL images aside, please bear in mind the incredible American ability to forget what happened yesterday.

Take the events of 911 and the willingness of the American public to return to the lax security of the Clinton-era.

As for Mitt Romney, I think his greatest drawback with Conservatives will be the fact that he had the words 'man and woman' replaced with 'Partner A and Partner B' when applying for a marriage certificate.

But who knows, maybe the public can forget that too.

Trolls?
How does supporting Mitt Romney translate into being a troll?

This is all that's wrong with politics today. A person must either fall in line or be negatively termed.

If things are so bad in Maryland that traffic guards are eager to resort to violence over political comments, I suggest some high altitude Rocky Mountain air to clear your head.

Finally!
Finally, an article that treats the Sarah Palin announcement in a calm, reasoned and sensible manner. Tony Blankley did not resort to:

1) Speculating about some brewing scandal involving Palin or a family member being the reason why she is stepping down.

2) Psycho-analyzing Palin under the premise that she was "rambling and incoherent", according to liberal talking points.

3) Advising Palin to re-invent herself or do a complete make-over; in effect, becoming like the elites that her fans detest.

4) Writing her off as a major national candidate in total disregard of her ability to draw huge crowds where ever she goes.

Yes, Blankley treated the matter with common sense and without the hyper-INsensitivity and incoherent babbling of most of the media.

Nickel
I understand what you are saying regarding the average working man's inability to relate to Mitt Romney. Or to George Bush, Sr. Both those men have a patrician elegance that makes them seem aloof from the blue collar crowd. But I think after four years of Obama's economic policies, which will probably result in massive deficits, high unemployment, and inflation, the blue collar bunch might want someone who has proven ability in turning around failing companies. I agree that Romney doesn't seem to have the common touch, but I'm betting that voters next time will take the election very seriously and elect a serious, dignified, uncommonly qualified candidate.

Sarah Palin is an exciting conservative with charisma and leadership ability, and I will support her if she becomes our nominee in 2012, but I think Romney is far and away our best choice. You call him a closet liberal. Hmmm. I haven't seen or heard anything to support that assumption.

Maybe the Massachusetts health care plan is a liberal policy, but they had a problem, and Romney is a problem solver, and he had to work with the Democrat majority in his legislature. President Reagan had to compromise on some of his agenda, too.

Romney isn't a conservative idealogue, and he focuses more on issues such as the economy and foreign policy, but that doesn't mean he is a closet liberal. He is an Electable Conservative who lives by conservative values.

It's Probably Mitt or Barack in 2012
Here's why.

If the economy miraculously bounces back in spite of BO and his henchmen doing everything possible to kill it with their progressive Keynsian crap, then he's in like Flynn.

If the economy is still bouncing along the in the basement or worse (many believe the worst is yet to come), it will be Mitt's year. In spite of his "liberal" baggage, people will be looking for a someone who at least somewhat understands the economics.

So here's the deal for SoCons who believe Mitt isn't conservative enough for you or populist enough for you and Christian enough for you, pack it in until 2016. Mitt is the only person who can beat BHO in 2012. And only if the economy is still bad,

...which it probably will be. Keynesian economics don't work.

What Next?
I don't think anyone with the possible exception of her family knows exactly why Sarah Palin resigned or what she will do next.

But I will raise two points for consideration.

1) As Mr. Blankley has said if she is so washed up and such a non-issue why are so many on the left so terrified of her and keep thinking they must keep going after her tooth and nail? And the media keep on covering it. She's not running for anything right now. Never in my lifetime have I ever seen an inactive candidate treated this way.

2) I think many on the left are jealous of her. To the men she is like the head cheerleader in high school they never could get a date with. And the women wish they had her looks because she always got the dates they didn't.

I know there is a lot more to the story but these two will do for now. Stay tuned for we haven't heard the last of Sarah Palin.

Mitt Romney
I like Mitt Romney, but I think Mitt Romney was politically dead as soon as he signed the MA healthcare bill. There isn't anyway he can win a general election with that baggage. MA healthcare is identical to Obamacare and is horribly unsuccessful to boot.

Troll is becoming an overused term on this website. In my opinion, if you think someone is a troll then you should ignore them because your reaction is EXACTLY what they want.

If the person running for federal government is a true conservative than beliefs don't matter much. If Mitt believes in civil unions then who cares if he is a true conservative. If he is a true conservative than the Federal government should have absolutely nothing to do with gay marriage (it is a state issue). Which would make the President's opinion on the subject infinitely less important than your neighbor's opinion on the subject. Again run a true conservative and nothing else matter. Do you guys want to "win" or not? I don't care if my President cross dresses as long as he (or she) reduces government power and proposes a balance budget and accountability Amendment. Nothing else matters. This is a difficult concept for conservatives. What you want in a state politicians is different than what you want in a federal politician.

Jason
It's interesting that you bring up the MA healthcare issue concerning Romney, because very few people, if any, ever bring up actual Alaska issues that Gov. Palin has been involved with.

Foremost in the negative capacity is her actions on the proposed natural gas pipeline, which she granted to a Canadian company. This, in turn, alienated US firms like Exxon/Mobil and Conoco/Phillips, who are proposing their own competing pipeline plan.
There's only room for one pipeline. Her actions in this area showed a lack of expertise in dealing with major players in an area where she is advertised as being an expert.

Is there a pain reliever for PDS
Politicians and government officials resign their posts frequently for a variety of reasons. I love the usual reply when a prominent person leaves office, it is said that "they wanted to spend more time with their families."

Yes, cabinet secretaries, administration staff, ambassadors, congressmen and senators resign all the time, sometimes forced sometimes personal but when Sarah Palin did so for her own reasons, she is a "quitter."

Mr. Blankley has it exactly right; real people, as opposed to career politicians, love Sarah Palin for a reason, because, she is well, "real people." The current crop of "lords and ladies" now occupying seats in elected office had better figure this out and soon. 2010 is nearing rapidly and they may well find themselves "kicked out" of the kingdom.

Sarah Paranoia
The Left is desperate to discredit her because they know she is a serious threat to the current occupant. John McCain has never been considered a Conservative, and he lost by 7% of the vote. The polls show that 40% consider themselves Conservatives and 21% call themselves Liberals. Alot of real Conservatives could not bear the thought of voting for Mac. Sarah brought out a lot but some stayed home. I'm a retired union Democrat and I will support Sarah in 2012 in every way I can! She's a real American, not an ivy-league elite. That scares Soros and moveon.org to death. I believe that a real Conservative could take the White House back and return some sanity to Washington. I think Romney is basically a good man and a great politician but the Evangelicals would never support a Mormon. The more the MSM attempts to bash Sarah the higher her profile becomes. No doubt she would make a better President than the radical far-left current occupant.

Jason
"MA healthcare is identical to Obamacare, and is horribly unsuccessful to boot."

It is NOT identical to Obamacare. Obamacare will force private insurance companies out of business and leave only the public option--and all of the rationing and government intrusion to follow. That is not the case with MA healthcare.

Furthermore, where do you get the idea that it is "horribly unsuccessful"? Certainly, it is not entirely palatable to true conservatives. However, in a state as liberal as ours which demanded reform, Mitt's plan is as painless as could be hoped for.

Let's Put on Our Thinking Caps
1. A NATIONAL health care system is unconstitutional. Even BHO, in his 1991 NPR interview, lamented that redistribution was forbidden by the Constitution.

2. In Mass Romney saw that EVERYBODY had health care: Those w/o insurance could just show up at the ER. This was costing huge $$. Was there a way to use the same $$ and get people insured? But this was a STATE plan, not a federal plan. Huge difference constitutionally. Romney has always said that STATES have the right to institute whatever insurance (or no plan).

He has said over and over that the Mass plan wasn't perfect and maybe someone could come something better.

3. Gay marriage became an issue SINCE Romney was gov. Civil unions are a fact of life; no way to fight that under equal rights. However, Romney's PAC contributed heavily to Prop 8 in CA. and he is an avid proponent of traditional marriage.

4. Romney APPEARS business-like and aloof from the common man. But remember, he spent years as a Mormon bishop and stake president, one-on-one ministering to the needs of all types of people in all kinds of trouble. People who know him sing his praises for his kindness, understanding and compassion.

5. There are those who believe that a Mormon in the White House will lend undue credibility to Mormonism. That, IMO, is just plain stupid. How many people became Methodists during GWB's presidency?

6. Romney believes Roe was wrongly decided and abortion law should go to the states.

There is only way to get BHO and his progressive juggernaut out in 2012 and that is to unite 100% behind one candidate and fight like hell to get them elected. A factionalized GOP is the absolute worst scenario.

It will guarantee BHO's 2nd term and who wants that? Well, the BHO administration, which is a gang of criminals stealing the American birthright--and we need to see them as such.

Finally an article that speaks the truth
Thank you for taking the time to write exactly what I've been thinking all along Tony! You are truly a breath of fresh air.

For all of you Romney people....Romney couldn't even win against John McCain....has Romney done anything to change HIS image? NO!!! He's still a "used car salesman".

I'm sick and tired of professional politicians and the corruption that follows them all around like the dirt surrounded PigPen.

Slap term limits on all Congress. No passage of any bills without reading and debating each and every one. Work for US....not us for them. Balance the budget, stop the stupidity with pork, stop the stupidity period. If someone wants to research why hogs stink, let them pay for it themselves.

Take away THEIR retirement, their 401k, their insurance benefits and quit letting them up their own salary. Then they might, just MIGHT, get a clue how the "little people" feel.

One Reason
There is one good reason there is so much annomosity about Sarah on both sides of the aisle.

It was the same for Eisenhower.

Sarah has not "served her time in Washington". Only politicians who have served such time deserve to be liked and elected to such a high position as President. Anyone who tries to force their way to the front of the line simply because they are liked by the voters should be tarred, feathered, and hung out to dry.

Romney, as a Republican,

has no chance of becoming POTUS. The reasons why are well known.

He would have a better chance if he ran as a Democrat.

Palin and Romney
I'd die for Palin.

Romney? He is a nothing. His father was a nothing.

Jay
"I'd die for Palin. "

I think that's Palin's biggest problem - the definite creepy factor among her admirers.

More to Jay at al
"I'd die for Palin. "

Cons think libs are "afraid" of Palin because she is popular among the extreme right. What liberals fear, if anything, is the extreme ardor and canonization of a politician, similar to what we have seen in history in the 20th century, especially during times of economic hardship.

That, coupled with the cult of admiration for the dumbing down of American culture so that people who are educated are disaparaged (and, as we have seen, removed) and those that are mediocre and play on sentiment and ignorance are revered suggests a scary direction for our society.

John McCain
Has defended Barack Obama more than he has Sarah Palin.

That's a fact.

People with-in his own campaign issued insults and accusations at her and McCain never said a word let alone go after those people and expose them.

Sarah Palin is for real and has been created by honesty and not the politics of either party.

Politics create liars and thieves and both parties do that very well.

I love Sarah and her family, real people.

Mellor & Pancho
Mellor, I'm not attempting to snipe here, but if you had your ideal GOP candidate running today, who do you think would be the best one?

Pancho; It is understandable that Palin would diss Exxon/Mobil over the pipeline issue, since they still owe Alaska a fair amount for their part of cleaning up the Exxon Valdez mess.

You have to admit though, that with the costs of dealing with all of the FMIA requests and the false allegations levied against her, it was refreshing to see a politician looking out for her constituents. With her gone, those costs will go away. Now, if only the politicians in DC would act in a similar...oh wait, there is no chance of that ever happening!

But, Jay,
Maybe we can take it up with the Department of Law there in Washington.

"You have to admit though, that with the costs of dealing with all of the FMIA requests and the false allegations levied against her, it was refreshing to see a politician looking out for her constituents."

If only she had told them when they voted for her that she would look out for them by quitting when the going got rough.

Palin-Nixon
In 1962, when Richard Nixon lost to Pat Brown in the race for Governor of California, most thought his career was finished. Even he thought so. Instead, he networked by supporting other Republicans in their political races, fundraising for other Republicans, and speaking engagements. As a result, in 1968 he won the nomination of the GOP for President and was elected in 1968. Being free of the Governor's office and its duties could allow Sarah Palin to do the same thing the next three years. I think it is a smart move on her part. Also, she could study up and learn more on foreign affairs that would help her address her one weak area.

Sarah better check w/ 'Dept. of Law'
What an absolute dummy. Possibly dumber than Reagan -- and that's saying something.

Palin: Pitbull with Lipstick...
Palin: Pitbull with Lipstick...
Sarah Palin states:

"I was just your average hockey mom. I love those hockey moms, you know, they say, what is the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick."

So there you have it in a nutshell...Sarah Palin as gop nominee sought a role for herself as the gop "pitbull w/lipstick" disguised as a model pretty average "soccer mom"...

it was total bs...what she is is a far right wing ideologue with superheated partisan rancourous and insulting rhetoric dropping bombshell on any "liberal/dem" in her path while all the time lambasting the "mainstream media" for being supposedly biased against repubs/cons...she called prez obama a socialistr/communist... and basically called dems/libs "traitors" to the u.s.

So the question is why did this self described "pitbull w/ lipstick" think for one minute there would be no "return fire" to her overheated right wing rhetoric? It was inevitable Gov Palin..those who cant take the heat should get out of the fire...politics isnt tiddlywinks...

I cannot understand the animosity coming from conservatives toward Romney, or toward Palin. These are two potentially fine candidates, and there may be others that will come forward. Yes, we should support our favorite in the primaries, but shouldn't outright dismiss any other in the general.

We cannot afford to lose the next election. Obama MUST be stopped. We cannot sit out the general election just because our idea of the perfect candidate isn't running. Obama is an EXTREME leftist. He is destroying our country, and the American dream. We need to think.

Sarah Confused Those Easily Confused
Sarah Palin has presented herself as an example of a "real American", and positions that as different from people who don't like her.

This is the same mistake Pat Buchanan made when, in a comment at the 1992 Democratic Convention, said "That's not America."

There are about 300 million "real Americans," and a subset of them believe Sarah Palin represents (in more ways than one) them. There is a larger group of people who don't want her to represent them, or don't like the version of "real American" that she embodies.

Several posters here, and many others at other times, have made the silly mistake of claiming that liberal dislike of her is due to jealousy--liberal women secretly want to be like her, liberal men find her appealing and wish they could have dated/married her. That's silly. The only claim about Palin that's more wrong is the one about how liberals dislike her because she's a strong woman.

The like and dislike of Palin is rooted in the culture wars--she's become symbolic for both sides. The spin takes over and the reality is ignored or trampled. Liberals don't talk about her because they're "afraid" of her--she's shorthand for what they see as bad about conservative political positions--and by that I don't mean patriotism, small town values, or being a "real American." Conservatives like to talk about her because they see her as shorthand for what they like about conservative politics. The media like to talk about her--not because they think she's a viable candidate for 2012 or because they're liberal and hate her--because she generates ratings and circulation.

Quitbull?

Excellent post, Bill.

Yes we'll back Sarah if she gets a place on the GOP campaign.

I also believe that no southerner who calls him/herself an evangelical will ever vote for Mitt. Not for major office. They'll flock to the polls and vote for Sarah. And to score, you MUST win the south.

Right now, however, we need a comeback in the 2010 mid term elections. Out with Nancy Floozie and Dingey Harry-- We can whip guys like Chris Dodd, Barney Fwank, Murtha, et al.

If we take back Congress (big if) It'll set the stage for our greatest GOP national convention yet. Sarah ought to emerge our candidate then. And--YES that's precisely what the left is deathly worried about! She's going to SINK Obama without even any bubbles rising to the surface! They already suspect it, and it gives them the shivers, IMHO.

Not necessarily so. I've known several people who were great writers who were not great speakers, and vice versa. A lot of times, disjointed speaking means that the brain is running faster than the mouth does, but says nothing about the quality of the thoughts or ideas.

Too much emphasis is placed on communications ability in modern politics. Too much emphasis is placed on physical appearance. (Nixon was the last bald man to be elected president, for example).

Too many people vote for a candidate based on superficials, and too few people vote based on actual positions and issues.

The problem with voting based on communication skills is that most of the time we just end up electing the smoothest liar.

Mrs. Palin is still a quitter- I don't see how anyone can spin this any other way, regardless of their personal opinions of her.

Notice how her attacks against "the media" never have specificity? Rant and play the victim, as those out of power are wont to do, is what she does best.

If she took such umbrage from such meaningless off-color Letterman monologues, what would she do as Chief Executive, when the stakes are real?

I hope she enjoy$ her future speaking career at Fox News (also part of the MSM she detests). Enjoy the family, moosehunting, whatever- but please, refrain from holding political office.

I understand the definition of "movement".

There is a growing feeling aided by the speed with which Obama is moving that the need is to do something radical now.

The movement wont support that on a level to win elections.

My issue is the lack of an articulate strong voice who can sell the idea to conservatives its better to loose a battle now and then rather than the war.
And still maintain that conservatism can and will grow to the point of its origin.

Palin--an honest Pol (?)
First, the disclaimer. What I know about Palin is what I hear from the media. I believe nothing from those folks--so I don't really know.

Having said that, her actions COULD be those of a principled person. The Executive (Governor, POTUS) is by definition an adversary of the Legislative branch. And a host of special interests. Once you become a lame duck, they can and will ignore you. Worse, they will start cutting deals with possible successors.

So--once you announce that, or are legally not allowed to you are not running for reelection, it becomes very hard to do your job. Those of us not on the public payroll have a ethics problem with that--drawing a paycheck while not doing the job. Elected politicians seem to ahve no such qualms.

So--she decided not to run for reelection--becoming a lame duck for the next year. In that situation, I would be inclined to hand the job to the Lt Gov--who is permitted to run--hence is NOT a lame duck.

What about the second term of the POTUS? Basically, he/she has power until the midterm--then it is over. Start working on the library, take an African Safari at government ezpense.

Termed out legistators have a lesser problem--they are simply committee members. Their vote on the last day counts as much as anyone elses.

Redneck..."Union?"
I am no fan of amendments 14 and 17.

the 14th codified the subjugation of the separate, sovereign states; while the 17th removed any possible recourse the states may have had in reining in a tyrannical national authority.

Now, we have a nation of 300+ million subjects. All ruled [badly] by a single national government.

Who is to give up their deeply held convictions for the "good of society?" The residents of Deerborn, MI (aka Deerbornistan), San Fransisco, CA? Guntersville, AL? ....which ones are to abandon their beliefs? all of them? For each of these three places [like many others on this continent] is populated by folks whose beliefs are irreconcilable with the others.

I think it's time to re-think the very idea of "one nation" and "indivisible;" itself a 20th century construct...a paean to the power of the national government.

"Union...." HA!

I encourage you to do some serious research regarding Lincoln and the Civil War. "The Real Lincoln" by Thomas DiLorenzo is a good place to start. It is well researched and uses a lot of Lincoln's own writings.

The Civil War was not about slavery, although the slavery issue was the match that lit the powderkeg. The underlying issue was whether the States were sovereign, or whether the Federal government was sovereign.

There are many instances in the writings of the founders where they indicated that inclusion in the Union was voluntary, and that the states had the right to secede if they wished. The Civil War was fought over this concept, with Lincoln being determined that the Union was soveriegn over the states and therefore they did not have the right to secede.

I wish there was more time and space here to discuss the topic, but the Civil War was a turning point in our history where the power of the states began to diminish and the power of a centralized government began to increase.

Love Her or Hate Her
Have you ever met a person that people seem to love or hate? I think Sarah Palin is one such person. It is inate to her personality and I doubt it will ever change. She will always be loved by some, dispised by others.

She is a very interesting person and will continue to be a public personality and a very popular Republican. I don't think she can ever accumulate the wide support needed to be a serious presidential contender.

Elitism--Now Its Over
Whenever anyone starts talking about "elites" you know the rational conversation is over.

Palin doesn't "dismantle" elitism--she's positioned against it, at least as she defines it. Problem is, it's perceived that her definition of "elites" are people who graduated from college and think for a living, and that's at about 1/2 the country and growing. When some mope claims that she's loved by "the people" its clear that it's a small and shrinking percentage of the "people."

This is the fundamental reason why, despite her appeal to the "conservative base," she's destined to be a marginal figure in American politics. She's our generation's George Wallace or Ross Perot--both of whom drew large, adoring crowds at events and ultimately got about 15-20% of the electorate.

She's done as a viable candidate for national office--only the marginals don't see that.

Why Libs Hate/Mock Palin
Libs, for all their self-professed intellectualism, are in truth, whiney brats that are never satisfied. They want things their way, and if they don't get their way, they throw tantrums. THEY HATE being told WHAT to do.

But more importantly, juveniles that they are, they LOVE to be seen as 'COOL', and one way to be seen as cool is to ridicule and mock people that are seen as goodie-goodie. They see Palin as a goodie-goodie. So when the goodie goodie slips up, or is made to look bad, they giggle even louder within their clique of cool kids.

No, I don't think they 'fear her' as a threat to their hold on the White House. Kids always need something to make fun of, it's their nature. It used to be GWB, now it's Palin.

Now, before you libs start throwing your toys in being CHARACTERIZED as juveniles, take note. Mockery is not a substitute for intellectual discourse...even if you call it 'satire' or 'criticism'. It still comes off as the equivalent of making silly faces when the teacher's back is turned.

NAIcoba "Teaches" Us
NAIcoba has just vividly illustrated why Sarah Palin is, and will remain, a marginal figure in national politics.

Just because Libs say it
Just because libs say it, or just because the media says it, DOESN'T make it so. When libs say that Palin is a joke, I don't put much stock in that.

These SAME libs elected Obama, whose economic and management experience is thinner than Biden's hairplugs...and the results, sadly, do show. The biggest argument against Obama's qualifications as president is...well, Obama himself. Shrinking jobs, rising unemployment, and a budget that is WAY beyond affordability (and climbing), and promises that your energy bills will go up...how is that a smart thing? So what, he sounds smart, he's got the degrees, he's surrounded himself with the smartest advisers with all the degrees--how's that working out so far?

So, before you call Palin 'stupid', consider how stupid this hope and change is starting to look. Name ONE thing Obama's done right. Those 'smarts' are starting out to be a real BUST.

Here you are, standing on an economic collapse that is being exacerbated by your wonderboy, and you're mocking Palin. I won't say that mocking Palin is an attempt to cover up the failure that Obama's turning out to be, but it does make your mockery seem like immature heckling.

At least Palin's run a successful business, obama hasn't run anything more than a lemonade stand...to think he's qualified to helm the world's largest economy is even stupider than the stupidity you attribute to Palin.

Palin's Run a Business?
What "successful business" has Sarah Palin run?

Bruce in IL
I would say that being a Governor of any state, even if it was for a short time, gives them more experience than the kenyan klown from IL. As I mentioned earlier, he started campaigning for POTUS before he even warmed up his chair. To make matters worse, he didn't make any significant contribution to your state and made no decisions that could be attributable to him if it went south.

Now, his buddy Joe Biden appears to be a prophet, emboldening an enemy to launch a cyber attack on July 4th. A real in your face to your messiah.

And lilly, I suggest that you get your hands on a copy of the osamacare bill that you so vehemently defend. If you can get past the legal speak that was put in there to add confusion and protect the legal profession, you may be horrified to find out that your husband may be determined to be not worth saving. If that doesn't scare the stuff out of you, you deserve what you get. At the very least, you will see why lawyers go into politics-to protect their brothers and sisters in their profession.

Very few people either love or hate
politicians. People who think Obama was elected because he was loved really don't have a clue.

Yes, people vote for who they like. But liking a candidate and campaigning for their victory is not the same thing.

Only the conservatives talk about Obama as being so iconic, so "loved." To the people who voted for him, he was the best candidate for the job for a variety of reasons and best represented them. He was not loved and revered the way you conservatives think he was. He's a politician -- same as Bush, Clinton or anyone else. The conservatives labeled him a savior, not the democrats.

That said, it's the same with Palin. The Dems do not "hate" her -- Dems, generally speaking do not get quite as childishly emotional about a candidate as the conservatives. The Dems, Independents, and those on the fence wanted to know what McCain/Palin would do to advance their interests. Most of them could give a hang about her husband's or her kid's personal lives -- unless they had some kind of criminal background which they don't. This isn't a schoolyard squabble -- there's no "hatred" or "fear" of big, bad Sarah. Let's just get the best and the smartest candidates we can and forget about all the emotional attachments to these people. Believe me, no matter what Palin, Obama or anyone else says - they don't love you the way you love them.

She has her flaws-not being prepared for predictably hostile interviewers and not being up to snuff on world history and events, but every time she is unfairly attacked (and, especially when her children are attacked), it increases my support for her and I think it does the same for people of conservative bent who believe in fairness.
She has surely not been treated fairly and ye old double standard has been easy to see.

The people who talk about Sarah Palin do so out of motivations other than "fear." When George Wallace and Ross Perot ran for President, no one "feared" that they were going to win, but they got talked about a great deal because, like Palin, they were interesting figures and, like Palin, they were prone to saying silly things. People talk a great deal about Gov Mark Sanford but no one "fears" that he's going to cheat on them as their spouse or that he's going to run for governor of their state.

People like novelty, and she's a novelty. At the fair people don't talk about the quilt exhibit, they talk about the two-headed calf or the kid who threw up after riding the Tilt-a-whirl.

I will agree in principle that Obama is on a course do be economically disastrous (what do you expect from someone with no economic experience or even executive experience)...and perhaps people will want ANYONE but Obama.

I don't know who we'll run in 2012 against Obama, but they need to be their own person, and not just the un-Obama. Maybe in Palin, or Romney or whoever, they can be the un-politician. Instead of just being the embodiment of everything Obama ISN'T, they need to be the embodiment of what people TRULY want in their president--someone that represents lower taxes, lower bills, more freedom, job creation, less government intrusion.

What ?
What is it about Palin that elicits such furious bipartisan Washington dismissiveness?

For Democrats:

When Palin was introduced to the public during the campaign her first official act was to act out her pitbull - lipstick fantasy and attack Obama and the Democrats - hard. Then she went on the road paraphrasing that same speech with attack after attack after attack.

For Republicans:

The quiet majority of (R)s are embarrassed. You have the party being lead and represented by a college dropout DJ and an inarticulate and under educated but lovely woman with appeal limited to the hardcore base. She keeps the base because she basically strings together the major talking points every time she speaks and that's all it takes.

Also to many (R)s, out of all the extremely qualified credentialed experienced women who could and should be elevated to prominence . Sarah Palin was thrust upon them. They are not impressed.

Liberal Obama Worship
Right again, KB. This explains why Obama got elected. It wasn't accomplishments or qualifications. It was American Idol, it was adulation. A lot of libs don't have religion, but down inside they need to worship SOMETHING. Obama embodies what they want in a secular savior, a believer in government, a great orator that looks slick.

He hasn't been an executive or a manager of any kind, and the way he's handled everything so far shows that lack of experience. He's generous with other people's money, even everyone's FUTURE money. Someone that owns, runs a business wouldn't do that--or those that do would go bankrupt.

Can ANY lib REALLY explain what qualifies Obama for the presidency? I don't think they can in all honesty.

NAIcoba

Indeed !

The " Anyone But " just refers to the atmosphere in 2012.

I believe we'll see South Carolina Senator Jim Demint,Indiana Congressman Mike Pence to Run against Former Masssachusetts Governor Mitt Romney ,Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and possibly now Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

Secondly and apparently,Obama ,who never made the published honors list either at Occidental or Columbia ,never took more than an Econ.101 Course ,if that.

Also, without honors ,Obama was allowed to enter Harvard Law School, where they don't give degrees in Economics .

Affirmative Action ?

Figure It !

Obama is a combo of his Akinsky Facilitator background, his father ,Barack Hussein Obama Senior's African Colonial Reaction Agenda.

He uses elements of colonialism tactics to implement his Quasi-Dictatorial Socialist Engineering Ambitions.

Sky Pete !

The Democrats , with the conspiring cooperation of The State Run Liberal Media attempt to "Marginalize ,Demonize,Slander and Denigrate " anyone ,who threatens their Agenda.

From Palin,to Limbaugh ,to Quayle,To Bork ,etc... The Main Stream State Run Liberal Media have aided Their Democrat Fellow Travelers in attempting to "DEFINE " and Squash Their Opponents.

This game is ending ,as The Main Stream Media is going bankrupt and The Alternative Media draws an audience on the internet and talk radio.

Watch and learn !

Who are the dummies?
Sarah Palin is supposed to be dumb. All the smart ones are in Congress and look where that has gotten us. The lowest rated Congress in history and they keep getting worse. I'll take someone like Palin with a little horse sense than the current bunch of buffoons in D.C.

Reagan Was the "Great Communicator"
And history has proved him to a good writer. These skills come form straight, rational thinking and actual knowledge. This gift to inspire people was founded on Reagans' ability to actually communicate conservatism. He was able to communicate conservatism because he spent years and years, thinking, speaking and honing his message.

Reagan's principles were not only vicseral but he was well versed; ergo he found the clear, concise language to cause his speech to resonate with true American principles.

People on this thread; do NOT make the mistake of dismissing this ability. BHO can get up at the telepromter and win the election with nanny state promises made his his sonorous baritone.

However, conservatism is a hard sell and no one who is a not a great communicator can sell it to those who are not already convinced.

To the choir, Palin is a great communicator. To the rest she is no Reagan. Maggie Thatcher has recently given advice to Palin.

Thatcher is the daughter of a grocer in the UK, where one's class is easily discernable through one's speech. Maggie had to learn to speak in a way that would be convincing and respected.

Of course, Palin wouldn't want to speak like Thatcher. But she should take Thatcher's advice to learn to speak in a way that will convince the non-choir that she can be trusted to know what she's talking about.

Not simply spouting conservative platitudes.

supernatural Sarah
Sometimes when things happen that cannot be explained in a conventional manner ie politically in this case there has to be room made for the supernatural.

If Governor Palin has the Christian sensitivities that I'm familiar with then it is very possible she asked God for direction in her life and that was the answer He imbued her mind with. A simple testing of the spirit of the decision is all it takes to discover if the decision came from God or from people. She has a strong spirit and a discerning one at that. It is entirely possible the decision didn't make sense to her either...at first. God's guidance often takes us down paths that don't make sense. Ask Moses or Job about that for verification.

Wait and see.

I Just Saw The Evidence

Hal was the guard at the Department of Homeland Security, who allowed a baby, TD2008, to go through the x-ray machine. TD's Mommy, Will, was searching her purse for a cellphone, at the time. They were going to see Janet Napolitano to beg that Mario not be deported. Could he be the Daddy, for what, the 10th time?

Of course, PlanoBlue is blue.

Phylo is over and out for good.

lilly is begging for ObamaCare so that a doctor could check out her grandson, TD2008, for free.

The Unuseful Idiots are keeping vigil.

Except for one, who is trying to find the Eureka moment, when he/she finds a document proving that Trig's Daddy was really Michael Jackson.

Sarah Palin
The old saying "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" seems to be loosing its clout. The media witches that demonize Sarah Palin for any reason seem to imitate her dress more than they do the frumpy first lady. While the media witches can't seem to get enough of the recent Goodwill wardrobe fashions of the first lady they do no imitate her.

Me thinks the big problem is the liberals and the media are afraid of Sarah Palin and want to destroy her before she becomes a national icon.

Tim, PA

Please do not take Jindal from us. We have a balanced budget, pork had be axed, cuts have been made, and no new taxes will be coming from Baton Rouge.

I will send The Vitter's only known opponent, the current Porn Star - Stormy Daniels, to pay a visit to Stuart Smalley. They can christen his new office.

Listen Up, Fools!
The FBI has said that it is not investigating Sarah Palin, for embezzlement or anything else.

All 15 ethics complaints filed against Palin have been dismissed, as being frivolous.

Go find Letterman so that he can tell another joke about A-Rod knocking up a Palin daughter. Maybe, he will say it was the 7 year old this time.

Andrew Sullivan and Maureen Dowd are salivating.

Tell me, St. Denis
How would you feel if Jindal called a few reporters on his back lawn and announced that he was quitting to pursue "a higher interest?"

Also, St. Denis
"All 15 ethics complaints filed against Palin have been dismissed, as being frivolous."

The fact is there are only three existing suits against Palin, but in contradiction to her statements, made several times, she has not paid one cent out of her own pocket for any of them, and as far as taxpayer money, the lawyers were already budgeted for way more than that amount and would have recieved the money in either case.

Next reason for quitting: I'm just too good for this stupid job?

doing her job
sarah palin made the only honorable choice she had in front of her. she has been forced on the national scene by america. would she be doing the state of alaska a service, if she continues to do what america has clled her to do? whether she runs for president in 2012 or not, conservative americans have drafted her as our spokesperson, and i think she told us friday, HELL YEAH!

This just in from FOX news:
On trying to explain the rise in Alzheimer's disease in America:

"We keep marrying other species and other ethnics--The problem is the Swedes have pure genes. They marry other Swedes, that's the rule. Finns marry other Finns; they have a pure society. In America we marry everybody. We will marry Italians and Irish. "

(Brian Kilmeade, conservative intellectual)

Does anybody suspect he went to school with Palin?

Fox's Kilmeade

is obviously not an elitist!!!

Last St. Denis
"Go find Letterman so that he can tell another joke about A-Rod knocking up a Palin daughter. Maybe, he will say it was the 7 year old this time."

Boo hoo hoo. Next time you are putting on your elitist expensive black Chanel suit that you couldn't wait to tell us about, consider this:

Hillary Clinton was called a pederast, a drug dealer, a lesbian, a murderess, and a communist spy. Her daughter was referred to by your wonderful Rush Limbaugh as a dog.

I love conservative sanctimony -- it's just SO selective!

NAIcoba
"What EXACTLY qualifies Obama to run any kind of economy?"

I'll tell you what qualifies him. He's not afraid to hire smart, qualified people and is able to recognize who they are. He's not afraid to look like there are more experienced and economically brilliant people than himself.

Palin seems to depend on her husband, children, and Fox news hosts for advice.

Blankley vs. Palin
ropati (Reply # 63) tries to minimize the importance of Palin's verbal shortcomings and says, "I don't care if Sarah falls over her words." I do. People who cannot speak or write clearly often betray an inability to think clearly.

Compare Palin's language skills with those of Mr. Blankley. I seldom agree with what Blankley has to say, but it is clear that he is thinking clearly and logically within his own ideological framework. Thus, I pay attention to his words, and I consider the possibility that some of his points are valid. Palin, on the other hand, seems incapable of rising above shallow, grammatically challenged, cliche-ridden fluff. She appeals principally to people who agree with the cliches and are not particular about the verbal skills or intellectual capacity of the person expressing them.

St.Denis,PatromSaint Of Jambalaya !

It's O.K. !

I went down and saw Jindal and made him an offer he couldn't refuse !

I said "Look Piyushie 2012 ain't your year. We're goin' with the money on Palin ."

Piyushie said , "Godfather , I coulda been somebody,I coulda been a contender ,instead of a Governor, which is what I am. Let's face it . And please , just no more shrimp heads in my bed ."

Piyushie got outta my Limo and started yellin', " Stella St.Denis ,Yoooo Stella St.Denis. "

I turned to my consigliari,Guido and said, these people are different down here ."

We then flew back to Atlantic City and went to The A.C. Bar & Grill and had dinner with Little Nicky Bachagalupi and his brother Fredo .
A nice time was had by all.

Amazing how much interest
She generates, when its all grassroots as it is.

The press cannot stop it and its great to see, even though they are doing their best to stop her popularity, it increases.

The more she gets attacked, the more popular she becomes.

I am praying Sarah will run for President.

She is the best hope this country has, for the decent people, the hard working people, the honest people.

God Bless Sarah and her family

St.Denis,Patron Saint Of Jambalaya !

Don't Worry !

I'll have Luca Brasi put a Donkey's Rump in BeeVee's Bed.

Then There'll Be Two Of Them !

Now It's Really Pathetic
We get the bottom feeders now, the genuine dimwits, hilariously claiming the press is trying to "stop Palin's popularity."

The only group with a greater interest than conservative Americans in maintaining Sarah Palin's popularity is the press.

It is beyond comprehension how anyone who has watched a TV and read a newspaper could come up with the whopper that the press would prefer her to be less popular. She is far more useful and valuable to them if she remains popular and interesting--they'd be slitting their own throats to "stop her popularity" if that was even possible.

The conservative Senator played by Richard Dreyfus in the movie "An American President" said it best--"We conservatives try to cry liberal bias about the press, but in reality what the press cares about is circulation and ratings."

If the press actually DID want to try to blunt her popularity, they'd do it by putting her on more often so she'd have more opportunity to appear silly and ill-prepared and petty and a serial mangler of syntax. Which would have the effect she's already had--she appeals to conservatives, and repels moderates and liberals.

Sarah is popular with the people
And just the press hates her.
Well the press and their useful idiots

Sarah: Do what's Right for You and Yours
The disgusting Obozzo, deranged maggots on the left (and even some on the right) basically forced the Palin's into a decision that they were not going to head for personal bankruptcy based on baseless allegations. The Palins came from an honorable but not very affluent background. They are not going to destroy all they have worked for to counter a fabricated witch-hunt from the left. I don't see any serious attempt to scrutinize that worthless idiot we have in the White House and there is a whole lot more REAL dirt to scrutinize.

Lorie Byrd: "These people don’t hate Palin because of the lies; the lies exist to justify the hate. And that’s another thing: it has not escaped my attention that many of the things Palin is accused of, falsely, are actually true of Obama. The fact is, Obama is an intellectually mediocre narcissist with a thin resume who’s lost without a teleprompter and whose entire campaign had all the substance and gravity of a Pepsi commercial. Yet people say Sarah Palin is a fluffy bunny diva. Those on the left hurl the most ridiculous, outrageous, disgusting garbage at Palin because they don't know what else to do about her and it scares them out of their witless minds."

Find any of the "ms" media
That writes of says anything positive about Sarah.

If there is one good story, or just a comment that is good, or lacking any hate to be accurate, there are 99 the opposite.

If we were all like the obama supporters and allowed the media to define everything for us, then no one would like Sarah due to believing the press.

Idiots like Bruce do not count as he is one of those who are easily influenced by the press

These low lifes do not care

They don't hate Palin as much as they hate us.

Yes, let's put that bright Tim Geitner the tax cheat in charge of the Treasury and let's take another bright person, Katherine Sebelius another tax cheat and put her in charge of the H&HS budget then let's get another bright person Eric Holder, the guy who let one of the biggest illegal arms dealing crooks in the world walk, who then fled the country so we can't touch him. and make him the AG! Will MSM pick our Candidates again?

Trolls already have this system;
http://sweetness-light.com/archive/obamas-online-trolls-to- keep-at-it

Conservatives need to organize one also.
This would require thousands of volunteers to each mass relay e-mail bulletins.
The bulletins would be sent on an "as needed" basis rather than a regular schedule.
Only those in the area who need to be informed would receive the bulletin;
( unless there was some way others could help too.)

A general message to all members would begin with a mass mailing to State relay stations.
State relay stations would mass mail to districts within their State who would mass mail to subscribers.
Each relay station would also respond to the sender to confirm they are relaying.
If there is no conformation then an emergency relay station would substitute to maintain full coverage.

A bulletin could also originate at a State, County or City level to inform of local issues.

This is just a rough outline that would need refinement by the people involved to guard against misuse of power.

It would begin with an e-mail explaining the idea and the need for honest communication so people can make wise decisions.
It would ask responses for relay volunteers and suggestions on refining the system and people who just wanted to receive the bulletin.
It would ask people to pass the e-mail on like a chain letter so the first one reaches as far as possible.

NEED;
Ways to prevent commercialization and/or sale of political influence.

Special "Hot Button" issues would be formatted for printing and distribution.
Hot button issues like guns or abortion, etc., have advocates who feel strong enough on the subject to have OfficeMax or some local printer print out 100 copies for $5 so they can distribute them door to door or in front of markets.
Many people get more than $5 worth of angry over their hot button issue.

Cpt. Sparrow quote

The author as well as many readers here are asking why is everybody on both sides of establishment attacking and smearing Sarah Palin.

The answer is easy and comes in a quote from "Pirates of the Caribbean" as recited by character Jack Sparrow: "You can always count that a dishonest man will act dishonestly, it's those honest ones you can't predict."

She might have really bad track record when she opens her mouth, but you know what? If "business as usual" Washington idiots don't want her in Washington, then people shouldn't even consider any other "choice" and vote for her period. There's no better parameter to decide whether one is "qualified" for Washington office than being despised by fellow Washingtonians. Despised, remember, because they KNOW it won't be predictable - i.e. dishonest and "business as usual".

According to her lawyer, they have all been dismissed. She has paid nearly $500,000 to her lawyer, again, according to him. The State of Alaska is out ~$2mn due to FOIA requests, court costs, etc. The evidence suggests that most of the ethics charges originated from the Lower 48 and, possibly, associated with news organizations.

"What is it about Palin that elicits such furious bipartisan Washington dismissiveness?"

I think you know the answer to this but here goes:

Sarah Palin by word, thought and deed represents the anathema of just about every thing the Liberal Left has accomplished over the past several decades.

This includes such as, Abortion on Demand, Affirmative action, the triumph of Political Correctness(PC), Feminism per se, this list could go on but i think you see where i am going.

Sarah Palin could and probably would destroy just about all of this carefully constructed facade, this vast cover up of its real purpose, the destruction of and subjugation of America to a Globalist agenda.

There can be no other explanation for the sheer magnitude and the unrivaled vitriol in the attacks on her, and her family. These "pornographic" attacks represent a new low for even our jaded Media and Political Class.

Puzzlin' Palin
It's not so much Sarah that puzzles me. After all, she is, as her most fervent supporters suggest, merely an average American. No, what puzzles me is how anyone could visualize her being a President they could be proud of. Frightening!

And ability aside, major parts of this consummate conservative's claim to fame are that she spent goverment money building a relatively huge sports facility in Wasilla and that she raised taxes on oil companies. Spending and taxing: sure sounds conservative to me.

Sarah Has a Great Future in Politics.
I love her refreshing honesty and if she can plant a "naughty monkey" high heel slipper in Obama's butt and kick him down Pennsylvania Avenue, She will have my vote forever!

Wake up Jake
So Jake, would you rather have Joe Biden as president? A man who plagerizes, speaks before he thinks and tells blatent lies - is that who you think should be President? Because he's a lot closer to it than Sarah Palin. And by the way - Yes, I think she could be President - someday. She needs more time, and more experience, as do many young people. But, she has integrity, a good set of values, and she is intelligent - when the time comes, and she has matured into a viable candidate - yes, I would be proud to vote for her.

Sarah Palin a breath of fresh air
To me, Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney are a breath of fresh air, they are solid, honest citizen first politicians, which is more then i can say about what we currently have. Most every politician in Washington is bought by lobbyists, whom is paid for by big corporate business. As far as i can tell these two are uncorruptible, if either or both make a run for 2012, they will have my full support.

KB Texan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIxRKjcbbBY Here you go. You can actually hear someone shout "KILL HIM!" when she's talking about Obama.

Remove head from sand dune, Daune
Yes, I'd rather see Biden, Romney, Clinton, Pawlenty, Webb, Graham, or any of millions of other coherent, non-quitters be President before Palin. Specifically about Biden, I don't think his one instance of plagerism (which was heartily OKed by the "victim" he plagerized) or his "blatant lies" (this seems to be a blatant lie ABOUT Biden rather than BY him--indeed, Biden's not thinking before he speaks is really a tribute to his excessive frankness and honesty) are any more outrageous than Palin's misattributing a quote to McArthur, claiming a perfect ethics record, when in fact she had to repay $10K, or claiming she opposed the "bridge to nowhere" when she only did so when she was cornered. All of these things are political point scoring, signifying not much of anything. A few politicians (e.g. Blagojevich) really do lack integrity, but it seems to me that Palin, the others mentioned above, and most politicians,, have roughly the same level of integrity, which inevitably seems somewhat (but not seriously) compromised as they adapt to political reality in a democracy. What is at issue is being able to think in an extended straight line, which I think Sarah's resignation speech clearly indicates she has trouble with. So far, she has shown no sign she can develop the depth or communication skills she needs to be a world leader, and she certainly won't do so by resigning halfway through her first term as governor. She's only 3 years younger than Obama, so it's a bit of an exaggeration to characterize her as a "young [person]".

Jake in MO

Your attitude is unadulterated spite and hatred. You're the typical liberal hate-monger and demagogue. I for one am thankful YOU didn't choose to run for office. Being dishonest as you are, your only party affiliation would have been Democrat.

It's no longer astonishing to see how Democrats can't recruit honest men and women. There are too many dishonest litmus tests for them to pass. Foremost of these being the willingness to abort living human beings. (There are others as well.) Which means that only liars ever qualify for leadership of your party.

You might well have passed all the litmus tests; since you lie here today. That's half the job description.

Ciao, and don't waste your time trying to denigrate an honest Republican governor. We aren't buying the calumny aimed at Sarah Palin. She's been articulate enough that honest folks know her qualifications well. Your BS can't touch her.

Timing is everything in politics. The certain fatigue and failure of the Obama presidency will enhance the more conservative policies of the Right sooner than later. You ain't seen nothin yet as to how bad the economy will get. All pertinent indicators show that Obama was and is wrong and that a conservative, such as Sarah Palin, will emerge to the hieghts of American politics. It may not be Palin but she can help by pointing out the consistent failures of the current political leaders. She can do it better if she is not the governor of Alaska. Even a dismal speaker and politician as was Richard Nixon rose to the top after failing to win the California governors seat. Palin's early exit from Alaska is a wise move because Americans will not vote for an Alaskan Governor for President. Not yet. White female politicians have a longer road to go than black males in this country. But when the timing is right, the conservatives will win again. And they should. Now you know.

Lets look at columnists' track records.
Some of the columnists who are so eager to dismiss Sarah Palin's political future are old enough to have written about the consequences of Richard Nixon's press conference after he lost the election for the governorship of California.

Nixon said something like "You won't have Richard Nixon to kick around any more." At the time, I thought Nixon's political career was over, and I believe most columnists then came to the same conclusion. Seven years later, Nixon was elected President, and I was happy to have voted for him. (I'd have been much happier to have voted for Barry Goldwater, but I doubt Goldwater would have done as well as Nixon did in 1968.)

Anyway, if any of George Will, Kathleen Parker, Peggy Noonan, et. al. wrote in 1968 that Nixon then had a political future, I'll be very surprised. And I'll reread more carefully their present analysis of Sarah Palin's abilities and chances.

Sarah Palin was the only reason I was eager to vote in the last election. Before McCain picked her as his running mate, I considered McCain just the lesser (admittedly far lesser) of two evils. I admire McCain as a Navy pilot but not as a RINO politician. The McCain - Feingold act was a terrible assault on our freedom of speech, and that alone would have made me hold my nose as I voted for him.
