Democrats Find Religion?

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

All of a sudden, the national Democratic Party has found religion.

The first official event of the recent Democratic National Convention was an interfaith service, complete with a Gospel choir and a rabbi reciting the Torah.

As the Associated Press reported, “Four years ago, such a scene would have been unthinkable at a Democratic National Convention.” But this year, faith is as popular as cell phones along the campaign trail, and Democratic Party officials are trying to get into the action.

Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama talks often of his faith. Look a little deeper, however, and you discover that the man that supposedly led him to Jesus was the fiery Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who also urged the Almighty to damn America.

Is this really religion? Or is this more show biz from a political party known for its Hollywood connections?

One of the problems with some Democrats invoking faith is the fact that faith and morals are supposed to go together, like the Old Testament and the New. One’s moral code is supposed to grow out of one’s faith in God. Yet, with some Democratic leaders, faith appears to be totally divorced from morals.

Take, for instance, John Edwards, the fair-haired boy whose star recently plummeted from the political sky following revelations he had had an extra-marital affair and lied about it. Edwards was nowhere to be found at the recent Democratic Party festivities. Instead, we received a command performance from former philanderer-in-chief, Bill Clinton. Like Edwards, Clinton had fooled around and lied about it. The issue here isn’t forgiveness—certainly any person of faith is required to forgive the transgressions of politicians—but integrity and repentance. A number of Clinton’s Democratic apologists will claim to this day that “everyone lies about sex”—a remark offensive to those who see both adultery and lying as sins against the Commandments. Do unto others - Waterboarding - Prosecute ourselves? Non-sequiturs.

Obama, assisted by the fawning MSM, has set himself up as a Messiah or a demi-god by his own words. It has _nothing_ to do with Bush.

To repeat the Dem talking point that it's all Bush's fault is a weak attempt to spin the blindingly obvious fact that Obama has used such grandiose rhetoric ("Heal the world", "Part the waters", etc) that he has set himself up to ridicule.

What experience does he have in healing? He wants to heal the world. Has he healed a continent, a country, a state, a county? What?

What water has he parted? Not an ocean, river, stream, or a creek. How about a glass of water?

You want to reduce deaths due to SUVs and speed? It is irresponsible not address this? Who made you god to tell us how fast we can drive or what cars we choose?

BTW, how many more people would have died if all Hummers were replaced with tin can miniature cars? Don't you hate those unintended consequences?

I ask again, what measures do you want to FORCE on us to save these lives?

I didn't say that we _must_ have religious displays on public property. Typical strawman argument. You attack a statement that I did not make.

There is no question that the phrase "Congress shall make no law regarding religion" has been completely twisted. Today's interpretation is nowhere to be found in the Constitution. At least admit that.

Tabor is suggesting that moral failings on the part of politicians is a specially democratic failing. Why are conservatives not embarassed to be associated with such ignorance?

Aren't there any conservatives who will note that it is their presidential candidate who had an affair not the democrats, or that the losses in 2006 were made worse by the various republican congressman who blew safe districts through the personal moral failings?

I don't know why Tabor is taking his audience to be so uninformed. But I also don't know why his audience is not insulted.
