Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

In only a hundred days and change, President Barack Obama has committed $6.5 trillion to waste, fraud, and abuse. That's $6,500,000,000,000.00, which is more than all the costs of World War I and World War II combined.

And you think it can't get worse? Believe me, IT CAN.

Things have gotten so bad, that even in my home state of California a Republican Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is urging support for a massive $16 billion tax hike which is deceptively masquerading as a measure to put a lid on out-of-control government spending.

You read that right: A massive tax-hike -- Proposition 1A -- is being peddled to the people as a measure to control spending.

But what else is new? After all, during the presidential campaign Barack Obama sold the people on wealth redistribution and the expansion of the welfare state by deceptively calling for tax cuts for 95 percent of all working Americans.

And he got away with it because, unfortunately, most people didn't realize that approximately 40 percent of the people in America already have a zero (or negative) tax liability, and it stands to reason that many more have a negligible tax liability. Isn't giving people a rebate on something they don't pay in the first place a hand-out. isn't that WELFARE?

But there's more. If approximately 35 percent (or more) of the working families in America are getting a check (or a bigger check) from the government, from where is that money coming? As a candidate, Obama told Joe the Plumber, in an unintentional moment of frankness, he's just going to "spread the wealth around."

So, if Obama could get away with that little bit of spin, then why not call a massive tax increase a measure to control government spending? And if politicians in California can get away with this little tax-and-spend subterfuge. then what does that mean for YOU?

Now you may not have heard about Proposition 1A, but rest assured, liberals in Washington like Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama and Harry Reid are watching Proposition 1A closely.

Speaker Pelosi, who is even stumping for the passage of Proposition 1A, recently said, "Proposition 1A is right on time."

The people of California will vote on Proposition 1A on May 19 -- just days from now -- and liberals in Congress, like Pelosi, are already getting a loud-and-clear message. If the people of California can be deceived into buying this obscene perversion of language, designed to fool trusting people into voting for a massive tax hike. YOU CAN TOO!

No matter where you may live, you owe it to yourself to get the facts on Proposition 1A because it may be coming, very soon, to a "theater" near you.

Proposition 1A is being sold to the people as a "spending cap" and, by implication, a tool to cut government waste. But walking hand-in-hand with this so-called spending cap is a massive $16 billion dollar tax increase.

Now you may be saying that if the spending cap results in a savings of more than $16 billion, then perhaps that is not so bad. So, what are the hard numbers on the spending cap? Amazingly, we don't really know.

There's an old Scottish proverb: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Our elected officials need to know right now that no matter what may happen to Proposition 1A on May 19, the American people want lower taxes and less government. They need to know now that you don't want a repeat of Proposition 1A on the national level.

That is why I am promising that my fight against tax increases in Sacramento, Calif. is only the first of many battles to be waged against tax increases and undisciplined spending habits. Standing next to each of you, I am preparing to take this fight to state capitols across our nation -- and finally end our campaign on the steps of our nation's Capitol in Washington, D.C.

We've just seen one the biggest grass-roots tax revolts in history. Patriotic, hard-working Americans gathered in small towns and major cities all over the country, even in Nancy Pelosi's hometown of San Francisco. I personally addressed a crowd of more than 5,000 patriotic Americans (Republicans, Democrats and Independents) at a Sacramento TEA Party that roared when I sent a message to Governor Schwarzenegger.

My message: "Arnold, you are no Ronald Reagan."

Governor Schwarzenegger would be well served if he simply heeded the words of my father, who once said that "government can increase its tax revenues and create the jobs we need without inflation by lowering the tax rates for business and individuals. We've tried spending our way to prosperity for four decades and it hasn't worked."

My father also used to say that government budgeting should be like family budgeting; that you should only spend the money you have. My father spoke of government often being the problem and not the solution.

And there is a parallel between what is happening right now with Proposition 1A in California, the TEA Party movement, and what transpired in the past.

There's something that many people don't know about my father. Approximately 30 years ago, Californians struck a blow against higher taxes through another ballot initiative called Proposition 13. My father was one of the champions of the Proposition 13 tax revolt and many believe that this skirmish was the opening salvo in what became known as the Reagan Revolution. Amazingly, the Reagan Revolution started with an initiative to cut taxes in one state, and my father rode that wave all the way to the Oval Office.

And my father's first order of business was to cut taxes across the board. Almost immediately, government revenues increased and the American people reaped the benefits of economic prosperity.

History can repeat itself. We did it before and we can do it again. It is time for Republicans to start working together to launch a new revolution -- a 21st Century Reagan Revolution.

If you figure out how to get rid of all liberals/socialists let me, and everyone else, know about it!!!

Oust Obama and All Liberals
Great Article Mr. Blackwell. You describe it so sublimely how corrupt and amoral Obama, Sebelius and the entire Liberal Establishment in this country are. And, these same Humane Liberals, will sit outside prisons and cry, chant, pray and moan over the impending death sentences of some who have tortured, raped and murdered children, but fully support the torture and dismemberment of unborn children without shedding a single tear for the fetus or for the would-be mother who has lost her soul, and in most cases, the taxpayers are forced to pay for these procedures that most civilzed people do not agree with.

God, help us all, if Obama and his diabolical schemes actually succeed. Obama and his entire administration and his cohorts in the U.S. Congress need to be exposed and removed from office. The only means that, We The People, have to do that is to Unite and Vote in Record numbers to replace these morally bankrupt individuals from office, and for the MSM and their talking heads such as Oprah Winfrey, The Nags on The View, and others, they need to be boycotted and their miserable shows that support and promote these Scoundrels and the Despicable Acts that they condone, will also disappear from the airwaves, and then Oprah and these other Immoral Feel Good performers can disappear into the dark shadows where they belong.

Upside Down America
Terrorists/Illegal Aliens Above The Law
In this upside-down world of Obama and Company, the only enemies of the United States are us hardworking men and women who actually support our own families, go to church, believe in traditional values, customs, traditions and the U.S. Constitution of this Great Republic.

Under the Obama regime, we have a Justice Department that believes Foreign Enemies and Terrorists have the same rights as U.S. Citizens and are protected under our constitution, while at the same time this same so-called Justice Department is trying to deny Legitimate Rights protected by our Constitution to the legitimate citizens of this country.

Under the Obama regime, they hand out all Citizen Rights including Entitlments of welfare checks, food stamps, free medical care, social security to tens of millions of illegals who have invaded our country and are driving up our unemployment rates and drive down our wage rates.

It is time that patriots get busy and demonstrate against this upside-down administration and congress who are willing to go to any lengths to gain power at the expense of the citizens and the U.S. Constitution. Illegal aliens, terrorists and other asssorted Criminals are above the Law, and we hardworking citizens are being put under the Boot of these Socialists who are busy undermining the very foundations of this nation.

pathetic hypocrite lilly
this old hag is by her accounts in her 80's a former school teacher married to a civil servant who only believes more gov't is the answer to everything.

She was formerly in love with the missus clinton and suffered from terminal bds.

But then she found the love of her life. A true socialist.commie and switched her affections to the messiah.

Last year she cried crocodile tears when the market had a bad day, but totally ignores the markets gyrations less she have to admit flap ears is clueless about the economy.

But like all old socialists she hates america and the repubs because they won't join her messiah in his rush to socialism. Hypocrite lilly like the messiah only believes the gov't is the answer.

But senile lilly can't understand gov't is the problem and the endless spending and social programs have bankrupted america. And still she maintains flap ears and the dims are right to run up trillions in debt just so the losers she claims to care about will have more of what they are too stupid and too lazy to earn on their own

Bruce
"just hold on a minute there, bub! My state is the hub of welfare bums!"

Yeah, but do your welfare bums receive a free car like they do here in the CommonTheft of ScrewYouChusetts?

Change the role of government?
Once upon a time, it wasn't the "role of government" to care for every individual cradle-to-grave like it is now.

Here's a few facts for you, zaphod:

Currently, over 2/3rds of the federal budget is dedicated to various forms of welfare programs. Not fighting wars, not enforcing laws, not anything having to do with foreign policy, not building bridges, but various versions of paying for "free stuff" for stupid people. Welfare, Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, etc. Over 2/3rds of the freakin' budget.

On the other hand, funding our military currently constitutes about 17% of the budget.

As recently as the 1950s, those numbers were reversed. About half of the federal budget was dedicated to funding the military, while about 15% of the budget was dedicated to the various welfare programs.

Now tell me, how did people survive back in the 1950s without all that "free stuff"?

Furthermmore, the only "economic consequences" governments can possibly suffer are the ones they create themselves. How do you think we got in this mess to begin with? All too many people are stupid enough to blame "capitalism", and that is BUNK! It is the lack of capitalism that created this mess. All these bailouts are the CAUSE, **NOT** the solution, to these problems. If the government didn't insist on bailing out every "too big to fail" industry on Earth to begin with, those industries would never have made the stupid gambles they made that put them in the position where they needed such a "bailout". It was the guarantee that good ol' gubmint will swoop in and save the day that motivated the stupid behavior!

Tea Party
just hold on a minute there, bub! My state is the hub of welfare bums!

The liberat media outlets were taking turns interviewing homeless people last fall and NONE of them were from Minnesota! They all moved here from somewhere else to mooch off of us. Further, go past any mail box business on welfare tax day and look at all of the out of state (especially from IL, one of whom is probably lily) welfare leeches coming out with their checks in hand. Our government leeches, I mean employees, don't stop it because, get this, they don't have the money to enforce it!

lily, did you happen to notice how much money that your messiah, osama and his b%&*ch wife donated to charity last year? Out of a combined income of over $600,000, not including the money from the sweet heart deal that he got on his house from Rezko, they donated a measley $5,000 to charity, which of course, was ACORN! How about the $30 plus million dollars in excess campaign funds (that came primarily from illegal excess campaign contributions) he amassed? He didn't "redistribute" that money and let's not even mention that his freaking inauguration costs, including the costs of cleaning up after your entitled ilk were the highest EVER, could have been put to one of your "better uses", but were not!! Take a look at the Kennedy's crying about wind mills on Cape Cod obstructing their views and Diane Pukestein giving her husband a multi million dollar government contract to dispose of the foreclosed homes that she was the cause of! WOW! Talk about hypocrisy. Of course, that's OK for you liberat trash! Go pound sand, you moron!

Tea Party
SSShhhhh! Don't advertize we're going back, thanks to the Democrats, with being a welfare bum heaven. I can see them starting to cross the ILL./WI border. Like roaches,...wish we had some RAID

I hate the call for "lower taxes."
Why?

Because it's inane, idiotic, and akin to a union crying for "more benefits" to the workers.

Finance is math. The government has a fixed set of expenditures in the form of programs, services, etc. In order to pay for these expenditures, government must tax in order to bring in sufficient revenue so as not to operate in debt.

Obviously, our government isn't very good at that - but you are going to need SOME taxes, and wanting lower taxes in an economic recession, while we're in two wars foisting an idiotic and unmanagable foreign policy...

...well, that's expensive. You want lower taxes? Reduce government expenses by normalizing our foreign policy, ending the War on Drugs, etc.

If you want lower taxes, and you want to lower them without severe economic or operational consequences, then you can't just amend the tax code. You have to change the role of government...

Bulldog/Bob C
I thought Lily used to live in Mass., she move to be closer to her messiah's unholy shrine?
You have my utmost sympathy having to live in
Taxachussetts...at least you did until we got the doofus we have here as gov. and the Dem. majority. I moved out of Mass when I married, and while we always were a high taxed state, it got better when Tommy Thompson ran the state, now we have Dipsy Doyle and his cabal feverishly undoing everything Tommy accomplished which will make WI once again the welfare bum heaven.
And Lily, so we have the National Seashore, big deal, if it weren't for a couple of hurricanes it would still be private and town property. And I can remember when we could take our beach buggy's on the Cape Beaches or just sit overnight on the Canal fishing until Hippies began to use them as their depraved Woodstock east partying grounds and forced the towns to close them to everyone. Decent folks thank you
for your selfcentered slacker lifestyles.

Hey lily
going by your logic, I don't think you need a computer or an on line server you pay for..why do you need it..do you use it for a job or just to post inanities on line, parroting your socialist garbage. Who are YOU to decide what people can or can't have? Who are YOU to decide what charities other people support and besides who ARE YOU to judge that they don't support them PRIVATELY???? Who are you to decide what someone does with the money THEY
earn? That's the operating word..EARN..why should Granite or any other American work as wage slaves to pay for the parasitical useless
lazy bums? Or are you one of those parasites that expects to have everything given to you on the backs of MY children, grandchildren and yet to be born great grandchildren?

Liberals have supernatural powers
It's amazing how liberals know how CEOs spend their money. How does Lilly, for example, know what the CEO that earns $100 million spends his money on.

How does she know that he doesn't buy a $10 million house and spend $1 million on all the rest of his expenses for a year and then give the remaining $89 million to charity?

Those lefties must have supernatural powers.

Also, isn't someone that makes $100 million and only spends 10% of their income on a house more responsible with their money than someone who makes $50,000/yr. and buys a $200,000 house?

Look at the new problems this way
Government can't stop the private sector wall street criminals, when it has it's own set of criminal wall streeters running the gigantic government programs like fannie and freddie.
Then we have the problem of so many government agencies with hundreds of thousands of employees with their 401k's and pension funds and insurances surged into the markets and occupying "formerly private equity and investment space".
So you get another gigantic layer of government employees that want wall street to become crime and balloon cantral, so their 401k and pension and insurance "investments" of taxpayers monies converted to gvoernmetn employee benefits "prosper".
That gigantic tangled mess creates real problems - if the government goes after criminals in the markets, they might wind up destroying their government employee funds... and they might get some "backpressure" to lay off from those criminal players who could reduce the "quality" of the governments money in the markets.
So you get a stifling feedback loop where crime winds up being encouraged and applauded, so long as the market continues to rise ... then when the neccessary implosion hits - the government acts outraged and scrambles in every direction pointings fingers away fro itself while it's losing employees sway the news and collude in "going after wall street"...
It's a CRIMINAL NIGHTMARE once the government is in it, and they are DEEP in it, when they are the ones that are supposed to enforce against the crime to begin with.
Hence we see the result, not often talked about but obvious if one pays attention to the trickling details " all the government hens were in on it ".

Heck modify that
Jamie Gorelick and Howard Raines took their tens of millions BY COMMITTING CRIMINAL ACTS OF COOKING THE BOOKS, so they could get their bonuses and golden parachutes.
I thinks it's way beyond clear the democrats are the most insane criminals this nation has ever seen, and they are using the government to loot the nation blind with the cover of "helping the people and the children".
My concern, besides their most massive theft carried on for decades and in it's culminating massive re-highway robbery and cover up phase, is that they will produce so much damage that it will crush the rest of the economy, and it appears there really isn't much else of "the rest of the economy" left.
Their freddie and fannie TOOK OVER the home loan markets in short time.
With near everything shipped and distributalbe and all of it on computer, gigantic changes can proceed with immense speed never seen nor heard of before the 90's, not even generally imagined.
We saw how they issued the TARP, then next thing you know we're finding out Obama appointees, former ceo's of the bailed out crime entities, got the first shot of the loot, and so did their criminal cohorts in other nations of Europe and elsewhere.
These people are MASTER CRIMINALS, and they are looting the entire USA, and insuring mob like "payments" to infinity with the gigantic owed pile of trillions in taxes for the future.
We know they thieved on failures already exposed, but noone can stop them.
I mean the USA seems to be gone, the whole deal is shattered, and the criminals in congress are in cahoots with the white house and wall street and decades of covered up crime, and every gigantic criminal enterprise they just cooked up as a solution to cover up their former thefts blew up in their face, so they lied about it, as well.
The only thing stopping complete criminality is what is already deep old traditional actions and ways of doing things.

So lilly
You think you should decide what everybody needs and is allowed to have?

I myself find I need $1000 handbags because they motivate me to keep working so that I can contribute way more than is returned to me in taxes. It's hard to motivate yourself when you pay huge tax bills to all levels of government and sin taxes and fees at every turn so that others can choose not to work, or choose not to better themselves, or choose to have children they can't afford, or choose to spend their money on drugs, rims, cell phones, cable and other luxuries instead of saving money, or here's an idea, paying for their own children, homes, healthcare, etc.

But if you really feel all you need is shelter and food I suggest you rent the smallest apartment available start buying generic soup and give all your other accumulated wealth and disposable income to the government to redistribute.

lilly
" And that, Gran, to borrow your phrase, is why the government will always trump the market. "
Well, the sad facts are, we are told, there's only about $46,000 available for each person.
We're also told, that isn't enough to live on in the big and famous lib city areas where one finds a Starbucks.
So even if you and Obama manage to redistribute to everyone equally without crushing the economy and making it far less, that's only 46 grand each before taxes.
Take out the 20 thousand in taxes, and everyone is left with 26 thousand to live on.
I'd go for the libs idea a lot more if there was a couple million bucks for each person in production, but it's not that much, it's far, far less.
If the libs get their way, they're going to have go with the commie land grab and land redistribution and that will include all the buildings and homes as well.
Maybe the libs should have made it against the law to own more than one home.
Problem there is the libs mouth is a lot bigger than their hearts, and anyone with a say in their party at nearly any level will NEVER go for real redistribution of any sort.
They all go for making the other people pay, and protecting themselves.
Hence, we see the Obama congressiional machine giving away trillions to wall street and the banks, absolutely unbelievable, and utterly impossible if it were republicans doing it.
It is clear the democrats and their libtards are the biggest master-criminals the world has ever known.
They'ell throw a near worthless bone to their "downtrodden" while they ride the gigantic pile of money to their kingdom of riches, and useful idiots like you, lilly, won't care or even notice.
Jamie Gorelick took her 30 million without blinking an eye, just like Howard Raines the big demomaster and arch economy destroyer.

Well if not that
" And in true banana republic fashion, Obama is an ILLEGAL ALIEN!!"
Yes, or a naturalized former citizen of Indonesia, hence his hiding everything that would settle the question by the legal pinions of secrecy.
I find it amazing that our potus can become prez without showing us his birth certificate when tens of millions question his citizenship, yet people born here with two parents born here have to show a birth certificate to get a drivers license.
Barry never answered how he travelled to Pakistan in the early 80's either.
I'm quite surprised that crime is at the very top, even before the election, and it show me that the rule of law itself is broken.
I'm supposed to believe and conform based upon some idea that a mass of uninformed fellow people (I certainly can't claim citizens) and power players said it's ok, so it's ok for a potus to never produce even the basic proof that he is qualified for the office.
He and his website admitted he was a citizen of the crown until he turned 21, that alone disqualifies him. Then we have his Indonesian citizenship, obviously true by laws in place then and never even argued by the obama camp.
I can understand how he got to where he did with all the activism and disruption around and after his birth, but to take it this far to the potus level indicates to me rule of law is gone, and banana republic of criminals is in.
Now they just declare a huge pile of spending, and have the FED buy up the non selling loans from Treasury then Congress tells everyone it's a secret who gets it so it doesn't hurt their stock prices.
Screw these people, they are criminals from the word go. They cover up and hide their actions and spew out orwellian speech like second nature. They're stealing trillions and noone is stopping them. It IS happening here.
I guess we'll see if it all blows to pieces or not.

Who Pays? Part 2
Lilly also wrote: "Do you personally fund the Coast Guard?" Beyond his tax dollars, if he uses their services (often referral to a private service) to tow his boat to land after engine failure, he pays a fee for the service.

"When I buy food with a reasonable expectation that it isn't contaminated, was that you paying the inspectors, food chemists, and bacteriologists?" And me, and you and everyone else. And the various food industries contribute to the bill too, and we pay for their portion through our purchases.

Lilly obviously is one of those people who believe the government has its' own source of income, separate from the extortion of taxes from the productive class. Here's a hint: The government has no money of its' own, it only has our money. And the government today apparently believes that, if it wishes it to be so, it is entitled to all the money we have.

Obviously I am no actually responding to "Lilly". To do so would be a waste of my time, the world contains no "teachable moments" for people like "Lilly". But in case any impressionable young people read "Lilly's" drivel, some further response should be available to them (in addition to the already extensive postings).

Who Pays?
Lilly wrote: "Re "More money in my pocket means more money to invest and spend"---well, Gran, that's the problem, isn't it. That money in your pocket and in your portfolio---does it go to fix our electrical grids, our dams, our highways?"

Yes it does. When he pays his electric bill, his electric supplier uses some of the profit from that bill to pay for establishing and maintaining the electric grid. The dams which provide power generation SHOULD be paid for by the same utilities, and water utilities too. The highways are paid for with fuel taxes. Public transportation too, though no fuel tax is paid by the public transit entities. Neither does any other governmental entity using fuel pay taxes for the fuel it uses.

"Does it provide public beaches, playgrounds, National Forests, and parks for our people to use and enjoy?" He may never see one of these, but the government decided his money (and mine and all other taxpayers) should be used for these. And if he did go to a National Park, he would further directly pay for it with an entry fee. Same for most state or city owned facilities.

"Did you provide us with the Cape Cod National Seashore?" No, God did.
"That kid up the street from you who, unfortunately, was born blind---did you take some of that money out of your pocket and pay his tuition at a school to teach him how to read Braille and function in a seeing world?" He probably did, seeing as how Americans contribute more private charity money than the people of any other country in the world. And that is in addition to the tax dollars the government has decided he needs to "donate" for this purpose.

Can't we just "sell" Ca.back to Mexico?
I mean it, no one in the other 49 states, (that's 56 left to you Democrats) will care if California gets sold back to Mexico. In fact, we'll give it away FREE if you take your illegals back with you. Hey, we'll throw in OR & WA too

lilly
Two other things people don't NEED.
1. $540/pair sneakers
2. $100/lb Waygu beef

By the way Lilly:
Bush's tax cuts passed in May 2003

Revenues to treasury:
2003 - $1.7 trillion
2004 - $1.8 trillion
2005 - $2.15 trillion
2006 - $2.4 trillion
2007 - $2.56 trillion

Source CBO

Also, when you can give me one example of a rich left wing celebrity that gives up everything they "don't need" and starts driving an $8,000 car and lives in a $200,000 house and stops going on vacations to Europe, Tahiti, etc.. Then I'll start to give up some things too....I won't hold my breath.

Really Justin?
Lets see what the Democrats say:

The economic benefits of ERTA were summarized by President Clinton's Council of Economic Advisers in 1994: "It is undeniable that the sharp reduction in taxes in the early 1980s was a strong impetus to economic growth."

Funny, seems like President Clintons economic advisors actually agree with me. :)

President Reagan also
established the IRA where people could finally save and get rewarded with a TAX CREDIT on their taxes.

Sorry
Dear old Dad, Mr. Reagan, didn't actually lower any taxes. The taxes just got shifted around. Social Security taxes, the one tax that ALL of us pay, shot up. We got gasoline taxes and excise taxes to boot. We even got hit with bracket creep through inflation. The tax burden didn't go down during the 1980s, it increased.

lilly
NOBODY *needs* anything more than warm clothing, protection from the weather, food, and water.

So I take it you agree that ALL wealth needs to be siezed, and the government can distribute burlap sacks for clothing, a cardboard box for shelter, a few liters of water per day, and a 2500 calorie protien paste for food.

After all, nobody *NEEDS* anything more than that!

And, oh, by the way, on your "but the Dutch are so cool!" BS, isn't it funny that American workers are far more productive, and work longer hours, than the Dutch? Oh, but somehow, some way, that means the Dutch really work harder!!

Lilly is INCOTRAVERTABLE PROOF that liberals are morons.

Who is John Galt?
...be prepared for the people who use their minds to go on strike....

And in true banana republic fashion, Obama is an ILLEGAL ALIEN!!

OBAMA'S MASTER PLAN

.....To build a SOCIALIST STATE on the rubble of a CAPITALIST REPUBLIC ...

.....In order to do this he must first discredit and destroy FREE MARKET CAPITALISM ...

.....His programs are designed to overload the GOVERNMENT with debt and cause an economic collapse of the dollar ...then declare MARTIAL LAW to "restore order and maintain the peace" ...

.....He will then nullify the CONSTITUTION as an outdated document, give himself unlimited powers and declare himself Dictator for Life ...he will do this with the approval of the populace under the guise of saving the REPUBLIC ...

.....Thus will begin the reign of OBAMA I ...

.....Sound crazy? ...I'll bet the ROMANS thought so too when CAESAR change ROME from a REPUBLIC into a DYNASTY .....COLOSSUS

Lilly writes:
First, richer people don't necessarily pay higher taxes since quite a lot of them employ experts to manage matters so that they don't have to pay any taxes at all. What did you think the hoo-hah was all about two weeks ago when Obama announced he was closing the loopholes so that the 12,000 US businesses that all gave the same address in some offshore tax haven---couldn't do it any more.
______________________________________________

Wow! Either you are very young or very naive.

Fact is that the top 5% wage earners pay more than 50% of our tax burden. It wouldn't take long before these folks will simply say enough and leave.

Fact is that BO will cause MORE companies to move overseas. They can't keep subsidizing the Unions that have BO in their pocket.

Socialism has been tried several times and all failed. You say that rich people don't NEED all that they have but it won't be long that the Government will tell YOU that you don't need all that you have either. I mean making $100,000 today ain't what it used to be.

If you make $50,000, the government will simply say that you can afford to give to those who don't work. Not a pretty site for our economy as BO continues on the foolish road of Tax and Spend.

Stuart Barney said today that with all this spending the standard of livign of people in this country will be lower in the future.

Welcome to the Marxist Socialist New Banana Republic called America.

Now THIS is FUNNY!!
Taxes have never been covered in such a witty way! This guy says just how I feel about my taxes! http://theblacksphere.blogspot.com/2009/04/celebration-of- tax-day-tea-anyone.html

Economists (part II)
2) Classical theory (Friedman, etc) says to lower taxes and cut spending. I listed several times when that was tried and worked. I then asked him to name one time where it didn't work. He couldn't.

I then asked him why he believed in the Keynsian approach when it had NEVER worked. His reply was classic: Well, the THEORY is that gov't spending would have a greater impact thanprivate spending.

But, I said, it has never worked that way in the past. Yes, he replied, but the THEORY is...

At that point I told him the old joke (abridged here, but you get the point) about the physicist, engineer, and economist trapped on an island with nothing to eat but cases and cases of beans.

Physiscist says, build fire, heat can pressure will split can and we can eat. Can exploded everywhere. Engineer said drop off cliff onto sharp rock. Same result. They asked economists his idea. He thougfht for a minute then sadi - assume a can openner.

Economists
Part of the problem is economists. My oldest son is taking macro econ in high school. I had a chance ot talk to his teacher for a while (he actually had a masters degree in econ, unlike many other econ teachers who barely know anything about it).

During the conversation I explained that I had studied it under some who actually studied under Milton Friedman, and I was a FIRM believer in his philosphy.

Teacher explained that he too had a Friedman connection, his advisor had collaborated with Friedman on some project. However, as time went on he, the teacher) had become more Keynsian.

I siad simply, let me ask you 2 questions.

1) Keynsian 'prime the pump' has been tried twice that I know of on major problems (depression in the 30'a and Japan in the 90's). In neither case did it work. Can you name one time when it did work?

He replied that I was right, it did not work in those cases and he could not come up with a case where it had worked.

lilly the deluded beatnik
you continue to ramble on about how much better off society is when is is the socialist nirvana you want it to be.

In your pathetic world gov't is the answer to everything but you fail to understand who pays the bills.

In the past you bragged about your years as a school teacher. It seems you are part of the problem where society is stuck with millions of illiterates un able to take their place as earners.,

But your love object, the messiah has called for increased welfare payments and for putting more losers on the welfare roles.

But you fail to understand what hyper inflation will do to the spending power of the dollar and what it will do to the retirement accounts of those people who believed that following the rules would allow them to enjoy a secure retirement.

But your fail to address the issue of the massive deficits your messiah and savior is inflicting on the country.

But why would you care. Old senile idiots like you don't care. As long as someone else is footing the bill and you aren't paying for the socialist nirvana you crave, you could care less.

But your love object has told you that these are not deficits but re investments in america and you are that stupid you believe him

Bob_C
Good points all, and as residents of the Bay State, we see first-hand the results of living in a one-party democracy.

You're probably not going to have much of an impact on Lilly though. Anyone who sincerely believes that "the government will always trump the market" is probably beyond hope. I wonder, did she ever hear of that failed experiement called the USSR?

lilly

Obama has massive deficits projected for the next ten years, even while the world is working to dump the dollar as the economic trade standard, and while the countries we count on to fund our massive deficits (by lending us money) are cutting up our credit cards.

Tell me lilly, is that how you conduct your finances? What possible agonizing twist of logic would make you believe that the rules that apply to individuals and businesses don't apply to government?

lilly

What's worse is that the federal government can't pay for the programs we already have on the books. Social Security and Medicare will be bankrupt within the next ten years, yet Obama sees fit to cram a massive socialized healthcare program down our throats that the country cannot even begin to pay for. If that isn't enough, this amateur has a whole wish list of giveaway programs to slip through the rubber-stamp congress.

Finally, while the rest of us are cutting back, trying to maintain in this recession, the federal government is spending money like happy days are here again. The fed is on a hiring spree, adding thousands to the federal government. The average salary for the federal government is over $70,000. The average salary in the private sector is just over $50,000.

In addition, his ridiculous anti-business policies are crushing the only source of income for the federal government - taxes.

lilly

Sometimes you speak like a drooling moron. You have a laughably pollyanna outlook on government irresponsibility, and for no other reason that it is the DEMOCRATS now doing the runaway spending. It is no more fiscally responsible now than when Bush was engaging in the same foolishness.

Are you aware that 46% of Obama's $3.6 trillion budget is borrowed from foreign countries? That's $1.6 TRILLION, which is added to the now $12 trillion national debt ($68 trillion if you count the unfunded mandates).

The debt service on that $12 trillion debt is approaching a half trillion dollars a year. That's over $1300 a year for every man, woman and child in America.

You rant on about roads and parks and seashores and all the little wonderful puppydog soft BS that makes government spending seem like a gift from God. But in fact most of government spending goes for administration costs, graft, payoffs and inefficiency. Out of every tax dollar spent, only about $0.20 is actually spent on that for which it is allocated.

And by far, the majority of the money is spent on thousands upon thousands of programs for which there is no return, and not "roads, parks and seashores."

Its Simple, Stupid
Its amazing how the facts never seem to bother the tax and spend liberals. Historically LOWER taxes created MORE government revenue. Yeah read that again...less taxation actually gave the government more money. It was true under Kennedy, it was true under Reagan and it was true under Bush II. Want an example of the opposite effect check out what happened when Jimmy Carter imposed a wind fall profit tax on the oil companies. The deficit was not created by lower taxes...government revenue actually grew...it was created by out of control spending (and yes I blame Republicans as much as Democrats). The solution is simple, lower taxes, incentivise business to grow and create jobs, generate more tax revenue whith less burden on the individual.

Government jobs cost taxpayers money and do not generate revenue...so the inflation of the job "creation" number by including government jobs is disingenuous. The private sector creates jobs that produce revenue...why are we deincentivising them with higher taxes especially during a recession?

Freedom Is The Way
Dems believe government is the way. when the say government they mean without Republicans, conservatives and in many cases moderates. In other words Dems believe in themselves.

also
If it works for the Dutch, good for them. I have personaly seen it go the other way in the U.S.

Now I do realize that a certain amount of socialism is inevitable for us. There are too many people with not enough to do when you factor in factory automation.

People left the farms to go to the factories to work. They can't go back to the farms that aint there anymore.

Our future will be what we make it. We would be wise too choose very carefully. Tyrany of the well meaning is still tyrany.

First off,Lily
That's not what I said and not even close to what I asked you.
Reading comprehension problems ?

Those 12,000 american businesses you cite will soon be at least 6,000 foreign business. Maybe more. Where's the gain ?

Anybody that earns money pays taxes, rich or poor. Wealth is not taxed.

I'm old to enough to remeber both Nixon and Kennedy using lawyers to find loopholes to get out of paying much in taxes.
Did you have a point ?

To Jim
Oh Jim, what makes you so silly? First, richer people don't necessarily pay higher taxes since quite a lot of them employ experts to manage matters so that they don't have to pay any taxes at all. What did you think the hoo-hah was all about two weeks ago when Obama announced he was closing the loopholes so that the 12,000 US businesses that all gave the same address in some offshore tax haven---couldn't do it any more. And are you old enough to remember when it came out that President Nixon wasn't paying any income tax?

Second, your theory that people in a "socialist" state become lazy is unfounded. A week ago Sunday there was an excellent article in the paper which you can google "going dutch shorto" (title is "Going Dutch", author is Russell Shorto). Shorto is an American whose job took him to Holland, where he is paid and taxed just like the Dutch. He says he was surprised that the Dutch are, in fact, energetic and enthusiastic workers in spite of receiving many benefits that would make American conservatives scream "evil Communism!". The article is fair, detailed, and very interesting. You might want to look at it.

To cactus head
Since we've already had a lot of welfare reform, most of your article is behind the times. You seem to think it's just the poor who benefit from government programs. Consider: the Coast Guard; dams; harbor control; Customs officers; electrical grids; National Forests; public playgrounds; the Cape Cod National Seashore; interstate highways; the Air Traffic Control system; NOAA (which provides data regarding weather and the oceans); medical research done at the National Institutes of Health; some reasonable expectation of food that won't poison us and drugs that won't kill us, thanks to the Food and Drug Adminstration; public libraries; public schools; state universities; citizenship classes for immigrants; community colleges. After World War II, so many returning military went to college on the GI Bill that, according to social historians, we saw the greatest move from the lower to the middle class in the history of the United States. The Marshall Plan rebuilt Europe. The peregrine falcon, once nearly extinct, is coming back. All of these services and programs are funded with tax money. I'm sure you have received the benefit of many of them.

Gee,Lily
When people make money, they pay taxes which support the services you mentioned. When they make more money they pay more taxes which provides money for more or improved services.

When they are taxed at punishing rates, they'll work less and make less. Money for those services dries up.
Why would I want to work 16 hours a day for the benefit of a someone who won't work 4 hours a week ? Or for a bureaucrat to sit on his @ss and tell me how it's done ?

Now riddle me this, every president, dem or repub, who has lowered taxes has resulted in both the people and government having more money. As a result, more poor people are helped and you have better services. This is an historical fact. So what is really behind the liberal desire for higher and higher taxes ?
Could it be a power grab ?

Tax rates
If tax rates are excessive they retard economic growth and the economy slows. There is less income to tax, and tax revenues decline.

Decreasing tax rates from excessive levels will indeed increase tax revenues because they will lead to more economic growth and more income to tax.

However, raising tax rates that already are excessive will cause further economic declines, decreased incomes to tax, and further declines in revenue.

Summarizing, raising taxes will backfire and produce less tax revenue.

lilly the senile old beatnik
so tell us crazy lilly how people getting an extra $13. a week are going to enjoy the goodlife.

Seems youy used to cry crocodile tears during the bush presidency when ever the market had down days. Seems the market continue to fail under you love object the socialist/commie from chicago.

And still you continue to keep silent about how he has failed to revive the economy despite the billions he has spent on pork projects and the trillions he will grow the deficit.

But you contin ue to praiser your messiah and his efforts to sdestroy capitalism in favor of the socialism you think america needs to make everything fair.

But you never explain why punishing the earners is justified and why rewarding the losers is something we must do without complaint.

But if you want to make things better, why not just kill yourself and your civil servant husband and turn your wealth over to the parasites you claim to care about. I am sure they would appreciate your sacrifice and the rest of us would be spared reading about how much you hate america

As for the parasites you always cry about, they can all take a flying f*ck. If they are too lazy and too stupid to take care of themselves why should the earners continue to reward them for their failed lives.

Funny how every city with large numbers of people living below the poverty line are all run by the dims and even that part of chicago your love god, the messiah came from remains a toliet which proves he is just as clueless about life as you are.

And have you spoken out about the $500,000. book advance he took. Doesn;t that prove he is just as greedy as the corporate people both you haters rail against

To Granite Eagle
Re "More money in my pocket means more money to invest and spend"---well, Gran, that's the problem, isn't it. That money in your pocket and in your portfolio---does it go to fix our electrical grids, our dams, our highways? Does it provide public beaches, playgrounds, National Forests, and parks for our people to use and enjoy? Did you provide us with the Cape Cod National Seashore? That kid up the street from you who, unfortunately, was born blind---did you take some of that money out of your pocket and pay his tuition at a school to teach him how to read Braille and function in a seeing world? Do you personally fund the Coast Guard? When I buy food with a reasonable expectation that it isn't contaminated, was that you paying the inspectors, food chemists, and bacteriologists?

If you are a CEO making $100 million a year, you don't NEED that much money. And nobody NEEDS four plasma TVs or three dirt bikes. Nobody NEEDS the $1000 purses I see advertised in my morning paper. Children need dental care. Old people need heart medicine. Mentally ill people NEED not to sleep in the street.

And that, Gran, to borrow your phrase, is why the government will always trump the market.

typical gov't solution
anytime gov't screws up they always tell the taxpayer it's their responsibility to b ail out the gov't with more taxes.

The problem for the country is that calif is the dims lab rat for screwing up spending and then seeking more taxes.

But we never hear gov't cut spending, eliminate programs or lay off useless gov't employees.

And now the dims control congress and are marching in goose step precision with the fraud posing as president who acts more like a dictator than an elected official.

Flap ears has proven he is more loyal to the unions and every special interest group that funded his campaign to be savior than to the country he was elected to act as president.

But tax cheat rangel heads up the committee that writes tax laws and like all racists residing in gov't fully believes the majority white earners already don't pay enough taxes.

But then there will never be enough tax revenue to satisfy the gov't which is the real problem facing america.

It seems while private businesses have been cutting back on employees the feds have hired an additional 66,000 new employees.

But that is flap ears goal. Higher taxes for the earners, more benefits for the losers that vote dim but pay little if any taxes and have more gov't employees loyal to their paycheck and not getting a job done.

But I hope that the stooges in calif pass this tax fiasco. It will embolden the dims in congress to do the same and perhaps the countries earners will wake up and realize the costs of the messiah's socialism is more than the country can afford and we can vote these thieves out of office

Great Article
Great Article Mr. Reagan.

Liberals have never been accused of having a grand vision much further than simply worrying about their pet legislation and getting through the next election cycle.......

More money in my pocket means more money to invest or spend.......the free markets will always trump the government.
