Cain: After Prayer and Soul Searching I am Suspending My Campaign

“I am at peace with my God. I am at peace with my wife and she is at peace with me. And I am peace with my family and I’m at peace with myself,”  Cain said. “As of today with a lot of prayer and soul searching I am suspending my presidential campaign. I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction.”

Herman Cain announced he is suspending his campaign during an event in Atlanta, Georgia this afternoon. Cain entered the arena with his wife Gloria by his side after getting off his campaign bus around 1:28 pm est.

Before Cain even entered the arena, preview speakers were asking the crowd, “Who are you going to vote for?” And chanting back and forth with the crowd, “When I say Herman, you say Cain!” In a smart public relations move, Suzi Voyle, President of the Georgia Federation of Republican Women was in attendance and gave a brief speech before Cain took the stage. Heavy hitter Dr. Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr. gave some brief remarks also, expressing gratitude for Cain's candidacy.

"We are so blessed to have this man," King said. "We stand with Mr. Cain, we stand with Mrs. Cain."

Cain starting his remarks by thanking his supporters for all they have done up to this point and for helping him accomplish what he has so far on the campaign trail. The crowd also showed support for Gloria Cain by chanting “Gloria! Gloria!”

"I am proof that a common man could lead this nation, because I consider myself one of you. Not one of those political elites,” Cain said. “It’s time for solutions. But as false accusations about me continue, they have sidetracked my ability to present solutions to the American people.”

“You are being denied solutions to our problems,” Cain said.

Cain repeated multiple times that the allegations made against him are not true.

But Cain made it clear he is not going to shut up and go away. He has started a new website, cainsolutions.com, as a way to continue the promotion of his ideas and solutions.

“I am not going to be silenced and I am not going away,” he said. “People in Washington D.C. are either playing the blame game, or pointing fingers or throwing the crumbs at the American people.” Cain said.

Near the end of his remarks, Cain said he will be making an endorsement in the coming weeks.
