Will the Democrats have the time to read their own health care bill before voting on it?

After more than a decade of public health care with mandatory coverage, so many Canadian doctors have left the practice and so many young people have entered other fields that Canada ranks 26th of 28 developed nations in its ratio of physicians to population. Once, Canada ranked among the leaders in the number of physicians -- but that was before government health care drove doctors out of the practice in droves.

The fundamental fact is that we cannot cover 36 million new patients without more doctors and nurses, much less with the declining census of medical professionals the Canadian experience points to.

A recent survey of doctors by the Pew Institute found that 45 percent of all practicing doctors would consider retiring or closing their practices if the Barack Obama health care bill passes. This scarcity of medical personnel heightens the likelihood of draconian rationing, lengthy waiting lists and lower quality medical care for all of us, particularly for the elderly.

Arguing with Idiots By Glenn Beck

This physician shortage leads to massive and never-ending waiting lists. In 1993, for example, there was an average wait of 9.3 weeks from the time a patient got a referral from a general practitioner to the time he could see a specialist in Canada. By 1997, the wait was up to 11.7 weeks. Now it's 17.3 weeks -- over four months just to see a specialist!

In Canada, unions control the entire health care process. In Manitoba, for example, there is an eight-month wait for colonoscopies, yet the unions do not permit weekend or evening procedures, thereby extending the waiting lists.

The unions are doing to health care in Canada what they have done to education in America -- stifling creativity, reinforcing bureaucracy and extending waiting times. Continued...

Nonsuch
You wrote: "Having lived in Europe, the US has the best health care in terms of delivery and results in the world. If you want to see rationing, then go to the UK."

Garbage. Ive travelled widely and been to both the US and Canada. Canada has an excellent heathcare system. Foxy is defending it, but you arent listening to her facts.

Anyone can take a negative statistic and run with it. In every million successes there is bound to be a failure.

I live in the UK and we have an excellent healthcare system, FREE at the point of need. That means you get saved and not refused if you havent got the money.

But you seem to want to quote facts, so lets quote some. And they are fresh facts. FACT...ready?

The US think-tank (read that again...US, ie you) the Commonwealth Fund ran a survey of more than 10,000 doctors in 11 countries. Including mine, the UK, Canada and of course the US. The main results where the US and UK systems were compared were:

Patients having difficulty paying for medication: US 58%, UK 14%

Doctors having problems getting hospital treatment for their patients: US 48%, UK 6%

Number of Doctors offering crucial out of hours care; US 29%, UK 89%

And the doozy, the lie you accuse us of all the time, Patients having long waiting time to see specialists: US 28%, UK 22%

So all those people who quote ignorantly about our healthcare system, and there are many here. Either look at facts, or shut up because we are proud of our system, mind your own business.

Health Care - Canadian Style
After reading the posts after mine several days ago, I realize that most of the bloggers haven't got a clue about what they are debating. I lived in Canada when they brought in socialized medicine ad had to put up with it for almost 40 years. When the opportunity arose to move to the US, we grabbed it ad ran. We gave up real food Fed Gov jobs in Canada to realize the freedom available in the US. We fled from socializm and became US citizens in 1998 and were proude to do so. Unless you have experienced what socialized medicine is, please don't try to tell us who have how good it is. Because it is not what you have been told or brainwashed into thinking it is. ObamaCare is not about healthcare; it's about seizing all the power they can get and controlling your life from cradle to grave. Anyone who doesn't believe that, well. I have a bridege in the middle of the Nevada desert that I'll sell you. Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.
