Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

My wife, Gena, and I recently recorded a public service announcement, lending our support for California's Proposition 8. While many of those opposing the measure are resorting to labeling citizens who support it as hatemongers, we are joining millions of others in simply restoring what "We the People" of California and the legislature voted into law in 2000. Here's the script and our rationale:

Chuck: Hi, I'm Chuck Norris, and this is my wife, Gena, and we're sharing with you from our Texas ranch about California's Proposition 8, the marriage amendment that maintains the union between a man and woman. As part-time residents of the Golden State, also, we are concerned about the precedent set by Proposition 8 and its effect on the rest of the nation.

Gena: For some citizens of California, the need for Proposition 8 might seem a bit confusing. In 2000, a strong majority voted to uphold the definition of a traditional marriage with a statewide referendum. But Proposition 22, as it was called, only amended state civil code. However, in May of 2008, four California state Supreme Court judges (against the will of the California citizens) voted that laws "limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples violate the state constitutional rights of same-sex couples." That is why Prop. 8 is needed; it would amend the constitution to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Just as you voted in 2000.

Chuck: We encourage Californians to vote "yes" for Prop. 8 for three simple reasons. First, we don't believe four judges should have the right to overturn laws already passed by voters and the state legislature. Their job is to apply the laws to specific situations, not to create new ones or legislate from the bench. The majority of Californians have already spoken, and it is simply not right for a very small minority to override their decision.

Gena: The second reason that we encourage Californians to vote "yes" for Prop. 8 is because redefining the bounds of marriage will have an immediate impact upon all of our children, especially those within public schools. California Education Code Section 51933 states that "instruction and materials shall teach respect for marriage and committed relationships." Proposition 8 is not just about preserving traditional marriage but protecting educational curriculum about this sacred union.

Chuck: The third reason that we encourage Californians to vote "yes" for Prop. 8 is because we're all Americans and we should never be afraid or intimidated to vote our conscience. In my new book, "Black Belt Patriotism," which is a cultural manifesto on issues from family to faith and country, I say things that may ruffle feathers of those in government. But freedom of expression is all of our right as Americans. God created the first couple a man and a woman; there's no reason to be ashamed of that fact.

Gena: As sure as a house divided cannot stand, neither can a state or nation. Let's unite and let our voices be heard. Please take courage and vote "yes" on Proposition 8 …

Chuck: … and safeguard marriage for future generations of Californians and the rest of America …

Both Chuck and Gena: … even Texans!

To watch the actual PSA or to learn more about this constitutional amendment, go to www.ProtectMarriage.com (for adults), www.iProtectMarriage.com (for youth) or www.ProtectMarriageCA.com. Instead of tearing down traditional marriage in our day, we should be upholding and building it up by voting "yes" on Proposition 8 and by using great relational resources found, for example, at www.SmalleyOnline.com. Also, if you haven't seen it, this might be a good time to see the movie "Fireproof." It will help you to "never leave your partner behind."

There is no doubt that this is the most important election of our lifetimes; there is so much on the line. That is why I encourage Americans everywhere to get out of the political bleachers and onto the battlefield. It's time for the black-belt patriots to stand up for the Constitution and Bill of Rights through their votes, as I recently said in a new National Rifle Association public service announcement, which is airing in 10 key states. And to arouse some possible fence sitters from their electoral lethargy, I even am giving away this week a free inspirational chapter about America's godly heritage from my new book, "Black Belt Patriotism."
