Will Sarah Palin make a run at the GOP Nomination in 2012?

President Bush said military success has led to a better quality of life in Iraq in an address Thursday morning.

“The surge is yielding major changes in Iraqi political life,” Bush said at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

“In Anbar Province -- which 18 months ago was declared ‘lost’ to al Qaeda -- we joined with the brave local sheiks who launched the first large-scale Arab uprising against al Qaeda,” Bush said. “Together, we've systematically dismantled al Qaeda in that province. In just over a year, Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, has seen its average number of attacks plummet from more than 18 per day to less than one per week. It's becoming clear that Anbar has not been lost to al Qaeda -- that al Qaeda has been -- has lost Anbar. And that's important, because this is the place where al Qaeda leadership has said they will find safe haven from which to launch further attacks against the United States of America. “

Bush credited Iraqis for taking active roles in helping American forces secure their communities. He said, “People have stepped up and said we’re sick and tired of our families having to live in violence, we can’t stand the thought of people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives, and we intend to do something about it. And they have!”

He also applauded the Iraqis for ratifying the “most democratic Constitution in the Arab world” and holding elections in which 12 million people participated in 2005. He admitted there were setbacks in the year 2006, which prompted his decision to send a “surge” of 21,500 additional troops to Iraq in January 2007.

Bush’s remarks preview the forthcoming testimony to Congress of General David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker about progress being made in Iraq scheduled for early April.

want me to post the news from the killings in the US? the list may go on for quite a while. Here is something I found on short notice.

from:
http://www.vpcla.org/factGang.htm

"There were 256 gang homicides in LA City from January to August 2002."

Now that is one city where there is no war going on.

You listing some killings across the country is nitpicking the bad portions of what is going on. I would bet that the iraqi civilians were dying at a higher rate before we invaded.

Here are some stats for that actually:

from:
http://wais.stanford.edu/Iraq/iraq_deathsundersaddamhussein 42503.html

"Coldly taken as a daily average for the 24 years of Saddam's reign, these numbers give us a horrifying picture of between 70 and 125 civilian deaths per day"

Success? Yes.

Our Iraq policy is a huge success. What I am trying to figure out is if they planned this. Nevertheless, our actions are resulting in an extraordinary outcome. We will see that the radical Sunni feeling of inevitability has been broken, directly by our actions. Before, Al Qaeda and Saudi Arabia as a government were promoting Wahabism and on a roll.

Muslims have a simplistic faith. When things go well for the bad guys, like after 9/11, Allah is happy with them. This gives them momentum on the “Arab Street.” Allah is with them, obviously. Now, not so much.

By empowering the historically more peace loving Iraqi Shiites we did more to stabilize the Muslim world than is generally given credit for. Saddam was the biggest enemy of the Shiites and a barrier for the Saudis, who flourished and could afford the luxury of supporting hate of the West without opposition or distraction. Now Saddam is gone, Osama hides in a cave, and the Sunnis and Shiites can concentrate on their longstanding historical enmity with more even odds, leaving us alone. Another massive plus is that the theologically more traditional and numerous Iraqi Shiites have risen in power to counterbalance the Shiite looneys in Iran as well. Any way you look at it, it is a beautiful strategic win for the US and the entire West! Who could have thunk it? Was it planned in advance? Are these guys brighter than we thought?
