Julian Castro Compares Betsy Ross Flag To 'Painful' Confederate Symbols

I am not trying to be rude here, but have we all gone insane? Well, not all of us exactly, but it seems in the left's earnest desire to keep an open mind, they have become so open-minded that their brains have fallen out. The latest example comes from the bizarre attack on the American flag started by Colin Kaepernick and Nike. Earlier, Matt covered how leftist academic Michael Eric Dyson compared the Betsy Ross version of the flag to swastikas or a burning a cross. But, now 2020 presidential candidate Julian Casto compared the flag to symbols of the Confederacy on Wednesday on CBS.

After Nike stopped the sale of a patriotic shoe featuring the Betsy Ross version of the American flag, Julio Rosas reports that Castro told the news station, "Yeah. Well, you know, I was glad to see that and my hope is that that they didn’t just do it to do it, that they understand the significance there. And look there are a lot of things in our history that are still very painful."

"The Confederate flag that still flies in some places and is used as a symbol, and I believe that we need to move toward an inclusive America that understands that pain, that doesn’t wipe it away from history in the sense that still belongs in a museum or we need to read about it and understand the significance because that’s how you learn and make sure that we don’t make the same mistakes in the future, but does not glorify it, does not celebrated it," Castro added.

National Republican Senatorial Committee senior adviser Matt Whitlock accurately characterizes this sort of thinking as "asinine."

So, now, it seems that for Democrats, their 2020 presidential campaign is open borders, healthcare for illegal aliens, and calling the American flag, and historical versions of the American flag, racist. Good luck selling all of that to the American people.
