Canadian Man Identifies As A Woman To Save Money On Car Insurance

Kassy Dillon of the Daily Wire reports that a Canadian man legally identified as a woman in order to save thousands on his car insurance policy.

The man, identified as David, wanted to purchase car insurance after buying a new Chevrolet. He was upset when he found the policy would cost him $4,500. He asked if the insurance would be at all cheaper if he were a woman. Indeed, if David was actually a female, the insurance would cost $3,400.

Originally, David was denied cheaper insurance, despite asking the company to recognize him as a woman. The company said in order to be recognized as a woman and obtain the cheaper rate, he needed a doctor’s note. So, he went and obtained one and had his birth certificate legally changed.

“It was pretty simple,” he said. “I just basically asked for it and told them that I identify as a woman, or I’d like to identify as a woman, and he wrote me the letter I wanted…I did it for the cheaper insurance.”

This move sparked controversy amongst those in the transgender community who claim he is belittling their identities.

“Alberta man admits to Perjury - “changes gender on government IDs for cheaper car insurance.” He thinks he’s so clever. Perjury is an offence liable to imprisonment of up to fourteen years. IT’S NOT A LOOPHOLE IT’S A CRIME!,” tweeted one activist.

But, David claims he simply “beat the system” and now saves $91 a month on car insurance.
