First Lady Melania Trump paid tribute to former First Lady Barbara Bush by unveiling a new commemorative stamp, celebrating her legacy of service and leadership. At a White House ceremony, Melania praised Bush’s dedication to literacy, family values, and public service, saying her legacy inspires Americans. The event brought together members of the Bush family, though some notable absences underscored lingering political divisions. Still, the focus remained on Barbara Bush’s lasting contributions to the nation and her role as a respected and influential First Lady.

This week, Melania Trump, who has made few appearances since her husband, President Donald Trump, took office for the second time, celebrated Bush's political and family life and her “unwavering conviction, dignity, and deep loyalty.

“Barbara’s unwavering conviction, dignity, and deep loyalty to her loved ones have left an indelible mark on our hearts and history,” she said. “Mrs. Bush's legacy is marked by her respect for tradition while also breaking with convention.”

The First Lady appeared in the East Room of the White House alongside Barbara Bush’s daughter, Dorothy Bush Koch; Alice Yates, the CEO of the George & Barbara Bush Foundation; and Judy de Torok, the U.S. Postal Service’s vice president of corporate affairs. However, former President George W. Bush was not at the event, nor were his children, George W. Bush and Jeb Bush.

Barbara Bush’s youngest daughter, Dorothy Bush Koch, spoke at the event about her mother's impact on transforming the White House into a "true home.”

“Barbara Bush, known to many as Mom, Ganny, the Silver Fox, or most famously in our family, the Enforcer, will forever be remembered for her strength, abounding love for family, quick wit, and deep commitment to literacy,” the 41st First Lady’s daughter said.

Melania Trump described the stamp as a symbol meant to encourage Americans to lead with kindness, show strength, and stay true to the values that give life purpose.

“Barbara Bush’s iconic commencement address at Wellesley College in 1990 remains an important moment in the conversation surrounding women’s roles in society. Her message, which emphasized the importance of family and personal integrity, encouraged women to carve their own paths in life,” she continued.
