In a troubling move that disregards the sanctity of life, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek (D-OR) has declared March 10 as "Abortion Provider Appreciation Day." This decision, which celebrates those who profit from ending the lives of unborn children, stands in stark contrast to the values held by millions of Americans who believe in protecting an unborn baby’s life by honoring those who kill an innocent life before it has a chance to live.

“Here in Oregon, we understand that abortion is health care, and providers are appreciated and can continue to provide care without interference and intimidation,” Kotek said.

“To our providers and to the patients who live in Oregon or have been forced to retreat to our state for care, know that I continue to have your back,” she continued.

This comes at a time when Oregon is experiencing a rise in out-of-state abortion patients. The Oregon Health Authority reports that in 2023, 1,661 individuals from other states sought abortions in Oregon, reflecting a nearly 60 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Her declaration, which honors those who perform abortions, directly contradicts the core principle of protecting life at every stage and only strengthens the troubling normalization of abortion.

Following President Donald Trump's election victory in November, Kotek directed the state's Health Authority to collaborate with OHSU to restock Oregon’s supply of Mifepristone— a medication that assists in miscarriage management and abortion— for three years.

She insisted that she would keep working with providers and the OHA to monitor and find solutions to combat federal threats to reproductive care.
