Newsom Calls to 'Trump Proof' California Laws

One of the most critical governors of President-elect Donald Trump just called for an emergency session with state lawmakers to devise a plan to block the next POTUS’ “unlawful” policies.

Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) rounded up his state’s legislature in response to Trump’s historic election night win to prepare them to fight against federal policies that threaten “fundamental rights,” such as abortion, immigration, and so-called climate change.

California is home to open borders and treating illegal immigrants better than they do law-abiding citizens. However, on day one of his second term, Trump vowed to deport every last illegal immigrant living in the United States, which means a big adios and so-long to illegal aliens attacking American communities.

In addition, despite Roe v. Wade being overturned and Trump taking a moderate approach to abortion, Newsom claims the 47th president will somehow take reproductive rights away from women.

And what about the climate change Newsom is so worried about? For starters, Trump’s policies will make the U.S. more energy-dependent, as his administration will emphasize drilling for more oil and gas. He will also cut spending on green energy, boost the country’s production of fossil fuels, and pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement, which has immense implications for American foreign and domestic policy.

That doesn't sound too bad. However, Democrats, such as Newsom, will do everything they can to stop Trump from implementing his "Make America Great Again" policies.

“Whether it be our fundamental civil rights, reproductive freedom, or climate action -- we refuse to turn back the clock and allow our values and laws to be attacked,” Newsom wrote on X.

The December 2 session will discuss boosting funding for legal action for California's justice department and other agencies to challenge the Trump Administration's policies in court and “Trump-proof” the state’s laws.

“California has faced this challenge before, and we know how to respond. We are prepared to fight in the courts, and we will do everything necessary to ensure Californians have the support and resources they need to thrive,” Newsom continued in a statement. “The freedoms we hold dear in California are under attack -- and we won't sit idle.”

During Trump’s first presidency, California legally challenged the incoming administration on issues such as auto emission limits and border wall construction.

Democratic Washington Governor-elect Bob Ferguson is also expected to announce similar actions.
