No Wonder Why Illegal Immigrants Are Running to This State

Progressive Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) is facing heat after suggesting a program that would give illegal immigrants $500 per month in rental assistance.

Whitmer offered Michigan landlords a "newcomer rental subsidy” to house illegal aliens who are facing deportation.

The Democrat governor is also facing backlash for referring to illegal immigrants as “newcomers.”

“Many refugees and other newcomers face critical housing challenges, and this program will increase access to better and more affordable housing opportunities while supporting a more rapid social integration to refugees and other newcomer populations to Michigan,” the website states.

The Newcomer Rental Subsidy program "provides Refugees and other Newcomer population-eligible households with rental assistance up to $500 per month for up to 12 months, with eligibility based on immigration status and household income."

State GOP lawmakers fear the program makes handouts more easily accessible to those who illegally entered the United States.

State House Republican Leader Matt Hall said that Whitmer “must come clean about this dubious program to the taxpayers who are paying for it. Michiganders shouldn’t have their dollars taken to reward those who broke our immigration laws.”

Tudor Dixon, who ran against Whitmer in 2022 as GOP candidate for governor said that the state is enabling President Joe Biden’s reckless immigration policies and enticing illegal aliens to overwhelm American communities and resources.

“Gretchen Whitmer is enabling Joe Biden’s open border policies by handing out cash to anyone who will take in unvetted illegal immigrants, undoubtedly risking the safety of our neighborhoods and communities,” Dixon said.

According to data, 91,000 illegal immigrants have invaded Michigan, with most coming from Mexico and China.

In December, state officials estimate a 40 percent increase in illegal aliens coming to Michigan in 2024.

Concerns over the program spiked after an illegal immigrant— who had been deported in 2020 and illegally re-entered the U.S.— was arrested this week for allegedly murdering a 25-year-old woman in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“After the murder of Ruby Garcia less than a week ago, Whitmer should immediately cancel this program and demand Biden secure the border for the good of Michigan citizens,” Dixon continued.
