NRCC Names Two PA Congressional Candidates to 'Young Guns' Program

Ahead of the 2018 midterms, and a battle for the youth vote between progressive liberals and the GOP, the National Republican Congressional Committee is heading up a program for first-time congressional candidates called “Young Guns.” The program, co-founded by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who also is eyeing a bid for Speaker of the House, aims to give funding and campaign resources to new candidates whom the Republican Party leadership views as competitive and viable in their bids for Congress. The comprehensive program provides multiple levels of infrastructure support, campaign messaging and monetary resources.

Two Pennsylvania Congressional candidates in competitive districts were recently welcomed into the program: Marty Northstein (PA-7) and John Chrin (PA-8). Northstein, running for recently retired Rep. Charlie Dent’s seat against former Allentown solicitor Susan Wild, is a native of the Lehigh Valley and an Olympic Cycling champion. Chrin is a first-generation college student and local businessman, also a native of the Lehigh Valley.

The Republican Party of Pennsylvania’s Communications Director, Jason Gottesman, says that Northstein and Chrin are two of Pennsylvania’s best Congressional candidates:

“Marty Nothstein and John Chrin epitomize the superb cadre of Republican Congressional candidates running in 2018 to keep Pennsylvania red...As the country’s attention will turn to Pennsylvania in November, we have a lot to be excited about in terms of the quality of our Republican Congressional candidates and we will be putting every effort into sending a majority-Republican Congressional delegation back to Washington so hard-working Pennsylvanians can keep their tax cut and have the rule of law and their liberties respected,” Gottesman said in an email.

The National Republican Congressional Committee’s ‘Young Guns’ program is a testament to how many first-time candidates President Donald Trump has inspired to run for political office. Regardless of age, the NRCC is going on the offense for these new voices running to hold seats in Washington. Although the NRCC’s counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, employs a program titled “Red to Blue,”as an effort to help candidates in historically red districts, the Democratic arm does not offer a program to give resources to first-time candidates.
