It Must Be Nice Being Married to a Democrat

Am I surprised that Rama Duwaji, wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, liked several social media posts celebrating the Hamas-led terror attacks of October 7, 2023?

No.

Am I surprised the media has a double standard when it comes to the spouses of prominent Democrats versus the spouses of Republicans?

Also no.

Because if you look closely, I'm betting even you can spot the difference in how Duwaji is treated versus, say, Virginia Thomas, Martha Bomgardner (the wife of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito), and Bruce Fischer, husband of Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer. Or any person who makes the apparently unforgivable sin of liking the "wrong" social media posts.

As Scott McClallen told you here, Duwaji expressed her support for the Hamas-led slaughter of Israeli Jews, including a video that showed Hamas shooting dogs, a fact The New York Times conveniently omitted from its reporting.

Then again, it also said Duwaji expressed her support for the "Palestinian cause," which apparently includes gunning down women, children, music festival attendees, and dogs.

There's no doubt in my mind The New York Times omitted this because a) people who normally don't care about the murder of Jews would be upset by the murder of dogs, and just two weeks after the Left came out in favor of banning Fido in NYC to appease those Islamists, they couldn't prove Rep. Randy Fine correct.

But I digress.

Last March, Rep. Maxine Waters wanted First Lady Melania Trump deported, despite FLOTUS having obtained legal U.S. citizenship. FLOTUS's modeling career was also fair game for the Left, and proof that she and President Trump were unfit for office. Because reasons.

In the spring of 2024, it was revealed that Justice Alito's wife, Martha, once hung an upside-down American flag outside on one of their properties. She also flew an "Appeal to Heaven" flag, a symbol of the American Revolution, at their vacation home in New Jersey. Democrats used this as fodder to push Justice Alito to recuse himself from cases related to January 6, 2021, because those who protested at the Capitol that day carried both flags. That didn't work, of course.

In 2022, Democrats tried to use text messages between Virginia Thomas, wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, and President Trump's White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows as grounds for impeaching Justice Thomas. CBS News referred to Virginia Thomas as a "conservative activist" and admitted the texts never mentioned Justice Thomas or the Supreme Court. Despite that, Rep. Ilhan Omar said Thomas needed to be impeached for his wife's behavior.

Just last year, the Left also had its knickers in a twist about Bruce Fischer, claiming he didn't show Vice President Kamala Harris enough respect during the swearing-in of his wife, Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer. See, Mr. Fischer didn't shake Kamala's hand. Bryan Tyler Cohen, who calls his show "No Lie" posted on X, "The husband of a Republican senator just refused to shake hands or make eye contact with Vice President Harris. The level of class you can expect from MAGA."

But those of us with eyeballs could see why: Fischer had a cane in his right hand and was holding the Bible on which his wife took the oath of office in his left. How was he supposed to shake hands with Harris, or anyone?

No lie indeed, Brian.

It's not just the spouses of Republicans who are targeted. In 2024, Brittany Mahomes, the wife of football player Patrick Mahomes had the audacity to — brace yourselves — like an Instagram post by Donald Trump.

History's greatest monster, right? For that, the media asked why Mahomes wasn't ostracized from all polite society, calling into question her friendship with Taylor Swift, who is now engaged to Travis Kelce, a teammate of Patrick Mahomes.

When asked about his wife's celebration of the slaughter of Jews, Mamdani simply said she's the "love of his life" and a "private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my city hall."

That's adorable.

We're supposed to pretend that Duwaji has no influence over Mamdani and his policies? We're supposed to pretend that Mamdani married someone who celebrated the slaughter of Jews, yet he doesn't agree with her?

New York City is home to more than 1.3 million Jews, the world's largest Jewish population outside of Israel itself. Those Jews deserve to know whether or not the wife of the man running the city celebrated and approved of the second biggest murder of Jews outside of the Holocaust. Mamdani has paid lip service to making sure Jews "feel safe" in his city, while his wife likes posts that celebrate their deaths. That's a problem, and it's one the media and Democrats don't care to address. Then again, they're also running a guy who had a Nazi logo tattooed on his chest, so perhaps killing Jews is just part of the party's platform now.

I understand that not every couple agrees on every issue, but condoning the actual genocide of Jews isn't exactly a squabble over where to have Sunday morning brunch or how to paint the kitchen. It is a deep-seated belief, and one that is foundational to a marriage.

But more than that, if the behavior of Virginia Thomas, Martha Bomgardner, and Bruce Fischer are fair game and reflective of their respective spouses, why is it that Duwaji's behavior isn't reflective of Mamdani's.

You know, the guy who also said he supports "globalizing the intifada"?

I suppose it's (D)ifferent, huh?
