House Judiciary Dems Demand IG Horowitz to Investigate Barr After DOJ Drops Case Against Flynn

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz on Friday demanding he investigate Attorney General William Barr over the department dropping its case against retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

The DOJ officially drop its case against Flynn after prosecutor Brandon Van Grack moved to withdraw from the case after he and his team were accused of prosecutorial misconduct after new FBI documents were released that provided insight to their strategy for their interview with Flynn in 2017.

The news sparked a large outcry from Democrats and members of the media.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said this recent example is just the latest in a long line of Barr abusing his power for "the president’s personal bidding."

"Like many Americans, we are deeply concerned by the Department's decision to move to dismiss the criminal case against Michael Flynn, who briefly served as President Trump's National Security Adviser. Under a generous plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Mr. Flynn was allowed to plead guilty to a single charge of making false statements to federal investigators and avoid prosecution for other serious alleged crimes," the letter stated.

"We write to request an investigation by your office into a pattern of conduct that includes improper political inference, ignoring standards for recusals, and abrogating Attorney General guidelines, among other improper considerations," the letter adds.

"If reforming the DOJ is really a priority for Democrats, then I look forward to Rep. Swalwell and Chairman Nadler calling for IG Horowitz to investigate the improper actions taken by the Obama DOJ during the 2016 presidential campaign. Let's face it, the only wrong that happened here occurred when President Trump, and his allies, were spied on by likes of Comey, Clapper, Rice, and Yates during the summer of 2016. Any argument or assertion otherwise just stinks," a senior GOP official close to the Judiciary Committee told Townhall.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe defended the FBI's tactics used against Flynn on Friday, saying he was "not targeted. He was properly investigated in a well-predicated case."
