Democrats, take a bow. You guys did well. No—you did great. That’s a fact. There’s no hiding it. I was wrong. Democratic candidate Ralph Northam reigned supreme over Republican Ed Gillespie and then some. Now, with that being said, it was due to a few factors. Guy outlined them in his analysis of the blue wave that came crashing down last night. First, it was to send a strong message to Trump, he animated the base to levels not seen since 2008, which was the year Obama won in a landslide win. With those figures, the GOP was going to get trashed.
Yet, do you know which person had nothing to do with it, but is attempting to take credit for it anyway: Hillary Clinton. It didn’t take long for her majesty to try and bathe in the afterglow of the Democrats’ wins last night in Virginia and New Jersey.

Northam also outperformed Hillary with women, white, and young voters, according to FiveThirtyEight’s Clare Malone. The surge was due to Trump, not because Hillary continues to fester in the limelight.
If anything, the Clinton camp has poured salt in the wounds, given the recent revelations that the entire 2016 Democratic primary was rigged against Bernie Sanders, and that she remains an animating force for Republicans. The party wants to move on, especially the vocal and active progressive wing that is still sour over that entire contest.
So, the Democrats have scored their first wins in Trump’s America. Now, let’s move onto the next contest.
