On Wednesday, people awoke to the horrific news of a shooting at a Republican team practice for the upcoming Congressional Baseball Game. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) was shot in the hip, but is expected to fully recover. Other staffers and police officers were shot as well. Capitol Police officers, who were there as part of Scalise's security detail (as he's Republican leadership) are being credited with preventing a massacre.

What is the Congressional Baseball Game?: The Congressional Baseball Game is held each year to raise money for a charity, and features members of the House of Representatives and the Senate in a Republicans vs. Democrats match-up. This year, the game is set to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation, and the Washington Literacy Center. It's one of the few completely bipartisan, friendly events of the year.
Who is playing this year?: The rosters can be found here. Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA), who played baseball in college, is considered to be the star of the Democrats' roster.
