Is ACORN Going Out of Business?

As funding has run dry for ACORN, officials of the community organizing group have announced they are on the verge of bankruptcy. It appears ACORN has been unable to shake their plagued past of corruption fast enough to pay the bills.

This is the group that was caught on tape last summer giving illegal tax advice to two individuals posing as a pimp and prostitute. Congress cut ACORN’s funding as a result and the group has been engaged in a legal battle ever since trying to get their dollars back.

According to the New York Times, the Maryland chapter of ACORN announced it would not reopen its offices. In addition, “Over the last six months, at least 15 of the group’s 30 state chapters have disbanded and have no plans of re-forming, Acorn officials said. The California and New York chapters, two of the largest, have severed their ties to the national group and have independently reconstituted themselves with new names.”
