This Day in American History...

On this day in 1776, word of America's Declaration of Independence reached London. Earlier that summer, General George Washington ordered the Declaration to be read publicly for his troops stationed in New York City.  Upon hearing of the Declaration, British officials in North America sent copies back to Great Britain.  British newspapers began printing copies of the Declaration in mid-August and soon after, translations of the Declaration began appearing in newspapers across Europe.
