Goodbye: ESPN Splits With Writer Who Called Trump A White Supremacist

ESPN is splitting with Jemele Hill, the host and writer for the network whose tenure has been dotted with controversy. Last fall, she fired a salvo at President Trump, calling him a white supremacist. She was not suspended, whereas longtime host Linda Cohn was suspended for having the temerity to say what was killing the sports news giant: politics is killing the network. ESPN has lost 10 million subscribers over the past five years. It’s a mess. From accounts, it’s a politically correct, liberal cesspool over there. Some employees reportedly pretend to be Democrats to keep their jobs. They told former reporter Britt McHenry she couldn’t like conservative tweets on social media. To show how absurd this network has become, in last year’s football game between University of Virginia vs. William & Mary, they reassigned a sports announcer because his name is Robert Lee; he’s Asian.

Yet, Hill’s tenure was marked with this sort of nonsense. She thinks respecting the national anthem and the American flag is a dog whistle. Earlier this year, ESPN took her off the air and reassigned her to The Undefeated, a division that markets itself as the “premier platform for exploring the intersections of race, sports and culture.”

Bleacher Report reports that her final day will be on September 1:

Jemele Hill will leave ESPN after accepting a buyout from the company, Sporting News' Michael McCarthy reported Saturday.

According to James Andrew Miller, who co-authored a book detailing the history of ESPN, Hill's departure will become final Sept. 1. Miller described her buyout as "amicable" and a "long time coming."

Hill had worked alongside Michael Smith on the 6 p.m. ET edition of SportsCenter before leaving that role and joining The Undefeated in January.

ESPN issued a statement last September distancing itself from remarks Hill made about President Donald Trump. Hill had called Trump "a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists" and "the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime."

Hill was beingpaid $2.5 million a year and had two more years left on her contract. In one of her final commentaries, she found the French Open’s new dress code, which would bar Serena Williams from wearing her skin-tight body suit…wait for it…racist.
