Stay Classy: Liberal Activists Laugh At GOP Congressman Telling Story About Wife's Cancer Fight

Now, with the James Comey firing dominating the news cycle, there is also another debate unfolding across the country—and probably one that’s more pressing for American families—which is health care. House Republicans passed the American Health Care Act. The Senate plans to draft its own separate bill after the CBO scores the legislation. Well, you can cue the outrage over this too. The Left is pushing hard the notion that thousands will die because of this GOP health care bill because there was absolutely zero costs to Obamacare—said by no one (who is serious). Aetna and Humana, two of the largest health care insurers in the country, announced their intention to completely withdraw from the Obamacare markets. Premiums are skyrocketing. It has not helped the middle class because they can’t afford it. The law is collapsing. Guy has written extensively on this matter.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), the chair of the House Republican Conference, said that she voted for the AHCA because of her son’s pre-existing condition; he has Down syndrome. Protesters from the liberal Organizing for Action group confronted Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) earlier this month, where Washington Free Beacon’s Bret Scher reported that the band of lefties laughed at the congressman when he tried to tell the story about his wife’s fight with cancer.

Organizing for Action activists gathered outside the Illinois office of Republican Rep. Rodney Davis laughed at the congressman as he attempted to tell the story about his wife's fight with cancer.

Davis attempted to tell the protesters, who stood outside his office with signs protesting his vote for the American Health Care Act, about his experience with the health care system back when his wife was diagnosed with colon cancer, but from the beginning he was interrupted and laughed at by the group.

After being told by a woman about how great her experience with the health care system was in Canada, Davis wanted to explain his experience dealing with the Canadian health care system. Just as Davis started his story about his wife, he stopped once he heard groans from somebody in the crowd.

"Did I just hear an ‘ugh'?" Davis said. "Wow. Did I just hear an ‘ugh' as I'm about to talk about somebody who had cancer? That's offensive."

Davis began to tell his story again after the interruption.

Davis was trying to detail the failures of socialized medicine, noting that a doctor from Canada who looked at his wife said that in his country, Mrs. Davis would have been seen when her cancer had progressed to stage four.

There is almost no one who agrees that Obamacare is perfect as it stands today. Fixes need to be made. The problem is that Democrats say they want changes, but would never stick their necks out to help Republicans, especially with Donald Trump in the White House. Also, some folks, like Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), have resorted to straight up lying about the AHCA. No shocker there, as Democrats lied for months to sell Obamacare. Remember when then-President Obama said that his law would allow Americans to keep their doctor and their health care plans. Well, Harris decided to cause a panic by saying that the AHCA would deny coverage to 129 million people. That claim got four Pinocchios from The Washington Post.

The use of the word “could” does not get Harris off the hook. As currently drafted, the provision affects a relatively small portion of the health insurance market — and even then several factors would need to play out before a person faced an issue. Moreover, the Republican plan specifically sets aside billions of dollars to help states create high-risk or invisible health pools to assist people if their health condition results in higher premiums or loss of coverage during the one-year transition period. It’s a valid question about whether the funding is adequate, but that’s different than assuming there is no funding at all.

Yet Harris uses a very high figure to suggest that everyone with a preexisting condition is at risk. The gap between her number and the reality of who might be affected is too large to ignore.

So, we have the Left lying again and laughing at stories about people fighting cancer—and these people are demanding town hall events?
