Movie Director: I'm Grateful My Mom Is Not Alive Because Trump Is President

Cortney covered the rather troubling development that President Trump might have disclosed classified information in his meeting with the Russians. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell have strongly denied The Washington Post story as reported, with McMaster telling the news media in 60-second news conference that methods and sources regarding classified information. The president can declassify information, so there is no crime here. But the optics, the company in which all of this occurred is troubling. Yet, let’s step away from this for a second since a few things need to be confirmed and frankly, we should sit on big developments like this since the media has often been wrong. Remember when James Comey reportedly asked for more resources to help with the FBI’s Trump-Russia probe? Well, that really didn’t happen. Not saying it's fake news. Let’s just wait.

What has come and gone is Mother’s Day—and I hope you all had a good one. Yet, even with apolitical celebrations like this one, some people, like The Avenger’s Director Joss Whedon, just can’t get over the fact that Hillary Clinton lost the election. I mean it’s getting pathetic. He’s made fun of cancer survivors in his efforts to fight the Trump White House and congressional Republicans. He apologized and promised to go away for a bit, until Mother’s Day.

“Today I gratefully give my mother the gift of having been dead for 25 years and not having to see what a tub of f**kery our country's become,” he tweeted.

You know for all the nonsensical talk about how Donald Trump has a dark vision for America, this pretty much tops that. The dark America talk used to describe Trump’s candidacy was something the news media deployed to pivot away from Obama’s failures or their ignorance that another America exposed outside of the cities. Areas that have been suffering for decades, areas that do get impacted when a plant (or coal mine) closes, and areas where slogans like Make America Great Again did resonate. One only has to look at the map to see the sea of red that dominates Middle America now. Yes, in these corners of the country, America has been in the dark ages for quite some time.

Second, and more to the point, let’s cool it with being a drama llama. This nation survived a bloody civil war. That literally was a “tub of f**kery,” our nation’s government collapsed. We’ve been through a lot worse as a nation that one sulking over their candidate losing an election. Get over it. It happens. And frankly, this is sort of a messed up thing to be grateful for on Mother’s Day. Grow up.
