U.S. troops are reportedly closing in on the new al Qaeda head in Iraq.

They thought they'd killed him yesterday, but it seems unlikely now. OpFor covered the whole drama:

We bagged al-Masri's aide last month, during a bug hunt near Haditha. With that score fresh in my mind, I was optimistic about the "Masri dead' report that came in over the Reuters wire. Next time, Gadget, next time.

They're running DNA tests to be sure, but it's unlikely that it's him.

We got his driver and personal assistant last week.
