Pork on the Chopping Block: Northrup Grumman Update

The pork scoreboard isn't updated yet, but I believe Coburn withdrew a couple of his amendments today.

Apparently, he's only going after the very big ones now, but I'm not sure what the back story is on that.

Andy Roth reports that the amendment to pull that $500 million for Northrup Grumman failed, 47-52. Bummer.

Tim Chapman wonders if this week will be a turning point for Congressional Republicans, quoting a source who compares them to alcoholics hitting rock bottom. Let's hope it's not too late to turn things around.

Apparently, Trent Lott has not yet recognized that he has a problem.

He openly doubts the Bush veto threat (can't blame him, but it's probably not the best thing to announce) and brags about how he and Thad Cochran are "wily" enough to get around all this pesky public opinion and open debate and spend your money anyway!

Brilliant, guys. I keep picturing the two of them in that old SNL skit, dressed in butterfly collars and platform shoes, saying, "we are two wily and crrrazy guys."

That should be their next press conference.
