In recent months, Townhall has covered how pro-abortion supporters are attempting to pass a radical abortion amendment to Ohio’s constitution. The proposed amendment would enshrine abortion access in the state and allow minors to undergo the procedure unbeknownst to their parents.

As Spencer noted, the proposed amendment goes much further than what it’s proponents claim, and prohibits “virtually any restrictions on abortion and all other procedures, including sex-change surgeries,” as well as would “cancel out not only parental consent laws but also mere parental notification of minors’ abortions or sex-change surgeries.”

The Ohio Secretary of State has not announced if the pro-abortion advocates behind the amendment have garnered enough valid signatures for the amendment to make the ballot. But, a recent poll shows an alarming amount of likely Ohio voters would support the controversial amendment.

According to a new USA TODAY Network/Suffolk University poll, about 57.6 percent of likely Ohio voters support the abortion rights proposal. In the survey, 32.4 percent said they oppose it, while 10 percent were undecided. These figures were derived from a poll of 500 likely voters conducted between July 9 to 12 with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

Broken down by political party, the amendment is overwhelmingly supported by Democrats (via The Cincinnati Enquirer):

About 81% of Democrats back the amendment compared with 32% of Republicans. Younger voters were more likely to back the proposal (69% of those between 18 and 34 years old) compared with older Ohioans (48% of those aged 65 or older). About 64% of women supported the measure compared to 50% of men.

Abortion is currently legal in the state through 21 weeks and six days, The Enquirer reported. And, an August 8 ballot measure could require that amendments to the state’s constitution need to pass by 60 percent of the vote.

Over the years, Republican lawmakers in the state have worked to pass legislation aimed at protecting the unborn. Now that Roe v. Wade is overturned, many states have outright banned the procedure, which Townhall covered

Members of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) have spoken out against Ohio’s radical proposed amendment.

"This amendment is so radical it would allow abortion at full-term, when babies can feel pain and survive outside the womb," noted Angela Martin, an OB/GYN near Cincinnati, told Townhall. "It also endangers the women it claims to care for by eliminating existing health and safety protections for abortion facilities," she added. "This amendment is not the way to support real, quality care for Ohio women and children."
