'Brazen Lies': Israel Pushes Back on Latest Allegations From Thunberg

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is at it again. Following her failed Freedom Flotilla Coalition mission in June to bring a negligible amount of aid to Gaza in what the Israeli Foreign Ministry dubbed the “selfie yacht,” she’s back—this time on the Global Sumud Flotilla. The 500 activists who traveled in more than 40 vessels attempting to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza strip fared no better than the first go around, however. Israeli forces detained most, including Thunberg, and has already begun deporting some of the “provocateurs.” But that’s not the end of the story.

Thunberg has created headline about her time being detained, alleging to Swedish officials her cell was infested with bed bugs, that she received little food and water, was forced to be photographed holding flags, and had to sit on hard surfaces for a long period of time.

The Israel Foreign Ministry pushed back, however, calling all the claims “brazen lies.”

"The claims regarding the mistreatment of Greta Thunberg and other detainees from the Hamas–Sumud flotilla are brazen lies," the ministry said on X. "All the detainees’ legal rights are fully upheld. Interestingly enough, Greta herself and other detainees refused to expedite their deportation and insisted on prolonging their stay in custody. Greta also did not complain to the Israeli authorities about any of these ludicrous and baseless allegations - because they never occurred."

In a separate post, Israel said it’s “keen” to see all the activists deported ASAP, “but some of them deliberately chose to prolong the legal deportation process, preferring to linger in Israel.”

While Israel insisted their legal rights are being upheld, the nation cautioned not to “believe the fake news they are spreading.”

Update: And she's off. Israel released photos Monday morning of Thunberg at the airport before being deported.

All the legal rights of the participants in this PR stunt were and will continue to be fully upheld.

The lies they are spreading are part of their pre-planned fake news campaign.

The only violent incident came from a Hamas–Sumud provocateur who bit a female medical staff member of Ketsiyot Prison.

Don’t believe the fake news they are spreading.
