RNC Chairwoman Wants DWS to Testify Before Congress Over Arrested Staffer

RNC Chairwoman Wants DWS to Testify Before Congress Over Arrested Staffer

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel thinks Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz should have to testify before Congress over her recently arrested staffer who was caught attempting to flee the country this week.

IT staffer Imran Awan was arrested at Dulles International Airport Tuesday as he was trying to make his way to Pakistan.

As Cortney reported, Awan was accused of “serious, potentially illegal, violations on the House IT network.” He was arrested on bank fraud charges for engaging in a “scheme to defraud a Congressional Federal Credit Union."

He was one of five contractors for the House of Representatives who was under investigation for stealing equipment and exposing House information online.

"Debbie Wasserman Schultz absolutely needs to testify and explain why this individual was on taxpayer-funded payroll until yesterday, as he was fleeing the country, on top of the fact that they had removed his access to congressional computers in February," McDaniel told Breitbart on Wednesday.

Awan was banned from the House computer network back in February after his crimes were revealed and an investigation was underway. Every congressional Democrat he worked for—with the exception of Wasserman Schultz—fired him at the time. A spokesman for Wasserman Schultz said he was not let go because they believed he had not broken any laws and that he was instead a victim of “potential ethnic and religious profiling.” The former DNC chair even threatened Capitol Police with “consequences” if they did not return equipment that pertained to the investigation.

"So she knew he was under investigation, she knew something was wrong, and she kept him on payroll," McDaniel added.

McDaniel said there are many questions that need answers.

"So we need to figure out what she knew, why she was protecting this person, and figure out what he did with important government information,” she said. "We need to have a full big picture as to what access this individual had not just to the congressional but also to the DNC servers.”

Major networks including ABC, NBC, and CBS have largely buried the story, with the former two completely ignoring it and the latter giving it a whopping 37 seconds.

"It's very sad that the mainstream media is not talking about this at all,” McDaniel concluded. “It shows the bias."
