Liberal Group to DWS: 'Resign Immediately'

Liberal group CREDO action, a “social change organization that supports activism and funds progressive nonprofits,” is demanding Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz resign from her position has chair of the Democratic National Committee. The group’s latest gripe with the Florida congresswoman is her recent accusation that millennials are “complacent” when it comes to fighting for abortion rights.

“Here’s what I see: a complacency among the generation of young women. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in an interview with The New York Times Magazine on Wednesday.

CREDO action claims her comments show how “out of touch she is” with the Democratic activist base.

“Young women, especially low income women and women of color, have been bearing the brunt of the right-wing’s relentless assault on abortion rights and have been leading the charge to fight back,” the group wrote in a statement. “Wasserman Schultz’s comment shows how out of touch she is with the progressive core values of the Democratic activist base, and is just the latest in a string of unacceptable actions that makes it clear it is time for her to resign as chair of the DNC.

This isn’t their only problem with Wasserman Schultz, however. The group goes on to list a series of issues they have had with her in the past four years, including how she’s managed the primary process.

By scheduling few debates, which are on the weekends and near holidays when viewership is at its lowest, CREDO action claims she has “rigged the primary process to suppress Democratic turnout.” Many liberals, including some of the Democratic presidential candidates, have echoed the group’s complaints, suggesting the DNC is in the bag for Hillary.

They also note, among other things, that she has “supported warmongers by trying to undermine the president’s Iran deal” and “sided with anti-progressive special interests that hurt Democratic voters and her own constituents.”

Democratic leaders have considered replacing Chair Wasserman Schultz before,” the statement reads. “Now we need to show that she has lost the support of grassroots progressives, and needs to go.”

The petition was sent to the group’s 3.9 million progressive activist members.
