Buckle Up: FBI's Peter Strzok Just Got Subpoenaed and He's Expected to Testify Next Week

Disgraced FBI Agent Peter Strzok, who sent numerous anti-Trump text messages to his mistress and FBI Attorney Lisa Page during the 2016 presidential election, will testify in front of the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees on Tuesday, July 10.

The hearing announcement comes after Strzok was subpoenaed.

"The Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform will hold a joint hearing on "Oversight of FBI and DOJ Actions Surrounding the 2016 Election: Testimony by FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok." The House Judiciary Committee today issued a subpoena to Peter Strzok - a former senior official in the FBI's counterintelligence division - to testify publicly before the Committees regarding FBI and DOJ actions surrounding the 2016 presidential election," the Committees released in a joint statement.

"Last year, the House Judiciary Committee and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee announced a joint investigation into decisions made by the Justice Department and FBI in 2016," the statement continues. "To date, the Committees have interviewed Peter Strzok and several other key witnesses, and have reviewed thousands of documents, including text messages between former FBI lawyer Lisa Page and Mr. Strzok."

The hearing comes three weeks after Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz found Strzok's bias was so severe during the presidential election, he could not be trusted to carry out certain investigative responsibilities.

Strzok worked on the criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton and joined Robert Mueller's Special Counsel investigation after Donald Trump won the White House. Mueller removed Strzok and Page from the investigation when biased text messages against Trump were discovered.

The Inspector General is now investigating whether Strzok's actions at the FBI helped prompt the Special Counsel investigation.
