Dems in AZ Supporting Libertarian to Steal Votes From Republican

Things are getting dirty in Arizona's 8th Congressional District race. Apparently the Arizona Democrat party is now sending out flyers to CD-8 residents urging them to vote for the Libertarian candidate in an obvious attempt to try and steal votes away from Republican Jesse Kelly in order to keep incumbent Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in office.

From Pueblo Politics:

The Arizona Democratic Party is distributing a flyer in congressional district 8 telling voters Libertarian candidate Steven Stoltz is “the real conservative” in the race.

Presumably, the piece is meant to pull potential voters away from Republican and tea party favorite Jesse Kelly, who has been running on a conservative fiscal and social platform. The race is considered close according to many national political analysts.

“It’s about letting voters know their choices, and when it comes to tea party ideals and knowing the Constitution, Jesse Kelly doesn’t hold a candle to Steve Stoltz. So we are simply letting voters know about their choices in this race,” said Jennifer Johnson, state Democratic Party spokeswoman.

Kelly’s campaign said he has not researched Stoltz’ positions, because Kelly is running against incumbent Democrat Gabrielle Giffords.

“It’s obvious that they can’t defend the record of Giffords, who has bankrupted this country and cut medicare and killed jobs,” said John Ellinwood, Kelly’s campaign spokesman. “We’re not surprised.”
