Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, recalling a statement from a fellow soldier about a buddy who he had served with in the Marine Corps:

He told me, 'When I first enlisted in the Marine Corps, homosexuality was illegal. When I reenlisted it was optional. I'm going to get out before it's mandatory.'
