More Americans Are Pro-Life Than Pro-Choice, For The First Time In Poll's History

Gallup has been doing an annual survey of Values and Beliefs among Americans since 1995. The survey released yesterday held that more Americans considered themselves anti-abortion (51%) than pro-abortion (42%) -- a notable difference from a year ago, when 44% were anti-abortion and 50% were pro-abortion.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List, was not surprised at the results; there have been strong anti-abortion trends since the early 90's. What is interesting, she said, is the labeling.
This is the "pro-choice" wording that was market tested by the pro-abortion movement. They put a lot of money into finding the right phrase, and they came up with a fabulous phrase. And it worked for them. But its taken a while for folks to figure out what pro-choice really means. We’re not talking about vanilla and chocolate.
The fact that Americans would come out "against choice" shows how strongly they feel about the procedure.
