Border Crisis: One of Biden's Illegal Immigrant 'Newcomers' Just Shot Two Cops

AP Photo/John Minchillo

As a follow-up to yesterday's post about President Biden's astoundingly cynical and dishonest new election year damage control foray on the border crisis he created, let's review the available facts surrounding yet another violent crime allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant who arrived during Biden's presidency.  One of Biden's 'newcomers' from Venezuela reportedly walked across our Southern border into Texas less than a year ago.  He eventually made his way to New York City, where he was walking free until last night, despite being a suspect in several robberies.  When some NYPD officers saw him speeding on his moped in the wrong direction down a one-way street, they gave chase.  He ditched the bike and fled on foot, with police in pursuit.  At that point, he allegedly pulled a gun and shot both cops. They returned fire and were able to bring him into custody.

Having attempted to murder two policemen, this criminal alien will now be sleeping somewhere other than his taxpayer-funded migrant shelter:

Two cops were shot by a Venezuelan migrant in a wild chase in Queens early Monday — with one of the injured officers frantically rushing to render aid to his more badly hurt partner, police and sources said. The officers were working on a robbery pattern involving criminals on mopeds in Elmhurst when they spotted 19-year-old Bernardo Castro Mata driving a black scooter with no plates the wrong way down a street about 1:40 a.m., police and law-enforcement sources said. The suspect — who entered the country illegally last year —  ditched his moped around 89th Street and 23rd Avenue and fled on foot, according to cops...The Finest ran after him and finally caught up with him several blocks away and tackled him to the ground — and the teen then whipped out an illegal Hi-Point .380 pistol from a fanny pack, police and sources said. One of the cops, Richard Yarusso, 26, was wrestling the suspect for the weapon when the gun discharged, striking the officer in his bullet-proof vest on his chest, sources said. Mata then allegedly shot Yarusso’s partner, Christopher Abreu, 26, in the leg as Abreu returned fire and hit the suspect in the right ankle, sources said.

...The suspect has no criminal history in the Big Apple but was being eyed in two previous violent “snatch and grab” robberies targeting women in Queens on May 21, cops said. Mata was already on the NYPD’s radar Monday as a person of interest for the robberies — which may be part of a slew of crimes run by crews, including a violent gang in at least one case...Mata illegally entered the US through Eagle Pass, Texas, in July of last year, law-enforcement sources and police said. NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban said he had been living at the migrant shelter in the former Courtyard Marriott Hotel near LaGuardia Airport in Queens. The shelter is about a block from the shooting scene. About 30 mopeds were parked outside it Monday. But two migrants living at the shelter told The Post that while Mata used to live there, he didn’t anymore after getting into a fight.

Those details, courtesy of the New York Post, are infuriating.  Thank God for that bulletproof vest, or else New York's finest may be arranging another police funeral.  The other officer, who was shot in the leg, was released from the hospital to applause from his colleagues:

Would President Biden apologize for calling this person "illegal," as he shamefully did in regard to Laken Riley's accused murderer?  Speaking of Biden, this incident is his administration's handiwork:

As I've written in previous posts about heinous, violent acts perpetrated by illegal immigrants, such criminals do not represent all migrants, of course.  Immigrants shouldn't be demonized as a group because of the acts of 'bad apples.'  Also, non-violent illegal immigrants also shouldn't be here, and every additional crime any illegal immigrant goes on to commit is an added outrage that should have never been allowed to happen.  Under Biden's horrific open border (approximately 10 million illegal crossings since he took office), such atrocities have increased.  And in deep blue jurisdictions that support both illegal immigration and pro-criminal policies, insulting results like this tend to play out:

This 'newcomer' was released nine times in nine months -- with apparently no fear of the law or deportation in the sanctuary city where the Democrats will hold their summer convention -- before graduating to a violent felony. "Progress" at work. I'll leave you with an update on this story, which has garnered precious little national attention:

A Middle Eastern illegal immigrant entered the country unlawfully across our Southern border in April. Within weeks, he'd relocated to the DC area, where he joined another Jordanian national (also in the country illegally) in attempting to lie then force their way onto a highly sensitive US military installation. Does anyone outside of right-leaning media and elected Republicans have any interest in this?
