The reporter's question to Robert Gibbs was direct and simple: Did the waterboarding tactics that Cheney discussed on "Face the Nation," save thousands, or hundreds of thousands of lives?

After 45 seconds of tap-dancing, Gibbs answered with a stern: "I'll check on where that is." Gibbs proceeded to respond to a question he was not supplied: hypothesizing the future of the Republican party based on Cheney's "FTN" comments; it was a grim hypothesis to say the least.
