Distasteful: Obama Says It Would Be Easier to Be President of China

Disgusting. From William Kristol at the Weekly Standard, who noticed this outrageous sentence from a NY Times piece:

'“Mr. Obama has told people that it would be so much easier to be the president of China. As one official put it, ‘No one is scrutinizing Hu Jintao’s words in Tahrir Square.’”

Obama Seeks a Course of Pragmatism in the Middle East,” The New York Times, March 11, 2011.'

Part of what makes someone a good ambassador for anything is an unfailing belief in his or her product. For a president, it's even more important, because there are lives that you have so much influence over in your own borders and abroad. How effective are you going to be representing our interests if all you can do is drool over a Communist regime?

Serving as President of the United States is an HONOR, Mr. Obama. If you don't see it that way, you are in the wrong job and should make way for someone who appreciates this country more.  The difficulties and responsibilities of the job are offset by the fact that you represent a nation unlike any other, and one that has carried a torch for treating man as a creature of free will and value against many challengers, including China. What makes Hu Jintao's job "so easy" is exactly what makes America so great.

Your lack of knowledge about what is appropriate to say as president is distasteful to the Americans you represent. You may be the only American in the world who thinks life would be easier in China. Feel free to go -- no one is keeping you here. That's the beauty of our system.
