George F. Will: “There's Nothing Better for American Conservatism than Periodic Examples of Untrammeled Liberalism”

Behold, columnist George F. Will on Fox News Sunday (via NewsBusters):

Actually, after listening to Will’s commentary about Mayor de Blasio, I couldn’t help but think of the president, and his much-pilloried legislative “achievement” -- that is, Obamacare. In 2010, when the Affordable Care Act passed on a straight party line vote, although perhaps a solid majority of Americans opposed the legislation from the beginning, it was generally held in higher esteem than it is today. Why? That’s because the law was mostly understood in theory, and its unintended consequences -- higher costs, lost coverage, and smaller doctor networks -- had yet to be fully realized. Now look at where we are.

Indeed, a poll taken just last year showed that a majority of millennials under 25 (young people!) wanted to toss the president “out of office.” Wow. In other words, if they felt that way on, say, November 6, 2012, perhaps the president wouldn't have won his bid for re-election. (Hence why the law’s implementation was purposefully and expressly delayed until after that date). But in any case, to paraphrase George Will, nothing is making Americans look at conservative alternatives to health care reform faster and more seriously than the implosion of the Affordable Care Act.

This is an opportunity Republicans shouldn't let go to waste.
