Mitt Romney Launches First TV Ad in Iowa

Following a sit-down interview with Bret Baier that led to some deservedly unfavorable headlines this week, Mitt Romney has moved on and launched his first television advertisement in Iowa. The 30-second spot, which will air on Friday, reinforces one of the recurring themes of his campaign – namely, that he is the private sector candidate most capable of growing the economy and creating jobs. His message is decidedly positive, with no mention of his fellow Republican rivals or President Obama. In effect, the commercial seems to implicitly emphasize the overt differences between Newt Gingrich, the 10-term Congressman and alleged Washington lobbyist, with Mitt’s experiences in private business.

And yet, with only 32 days until the Iowa caucuses, recent polls indicate that the former House Speaker is firmly entrenched as the frontrunner and well positioned to win the contest on January 3. The new broadcast, I suspect, is only the first in a series of aggressive new advertisements that will be released by the Romney campaign to gain momentum and court voters in the Hawkeye State.
