Allen West Discusses Foreign Policy

In light of the CBS News/National Journal Republican foreign policy debate Saturday evening, I thought it would be judicious to post an interview with Congressman Allen West (R-FL) discussing foreign affairs. West, who served in the United States Army before winning public office, is vehemently opposed to cutting the size and scope of the American military. During his interview with Kathleen Walter from Newsmax.TV, he warns that if the Super Committee does not reach a bipartisan agreement – which, of course, will inevitably lead to painful spending cuts to the armed services – the United States would not be able to adequately defend its own vital interests.

More important, when dealing with an increasingly hostile Iran, West calls this point in our history a “Chamberlain/Churchill moment.” The United States, he says, cannot appease or compromise with an autocratic dictator, especially one who is indifferent to the plight and suffering of the Iranian people. In short, America is running out of time to deal with this impending and colossal threat. He further asserted that if Iran procures nuclear weapons, and Israel preemptively strikes, American forces should not hesitate to support our only democratic ally in the Middle East.
