GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy said Nancy Pelosi has a "dirty little secret" as to why she's withheld the articles of impeachment against President Trump for so long. He muses that her goal was to screw over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the 2020 Democratic primary, just like Debbie Wasserman Schultz did back in 2016. During the 2016 election, Schultz and the DNC made several decisions that limited Sanders's campaign and buoyed Hillary Clinton's.

"They are doing the exact same thing right now," McCarthy said on Fox News Sunday morning. "The Iowa Caucus is on Feb. 3. Bernie Sanders is in first place, and what this does is this benefits Joe Biden. This harms Sen. Sanders, who is in first place and could become their nominee."

On Capitol Hill on Tuesday morning, after Pelosi announced the House would vote Wednesday on when to release the articles, McCarthy urged Biden to suspend his campaign until the impeachment dust settles because it's the "rightful" thing to do.

Asked to respond, House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries told reporters that they "will not take political advice" from the GOP leader.

"The only reason she's doing this and no one's talking about: it is harming Bernie Sanders, who's coming in to first place, who could win Iowa and prepare himself as the nominee," McCarthy emphasized on Fox. "It's the same thing they did to him four years ago."
