Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) who believes President Trump's proposed border wall is "ludicrous," takes no issue with people who cross into our country illegally, he told "Meet the Press"'s Chuck Todd on Sunday. While he is open to working certain Republican senators on immigration, he told President Trump he has no right demanding "immigrants" leave.
I want to work with Senator Rubio in Florida, I want to work with others. I listened to what Governor Kasich said. It's terrible when we take people—when we are taking immigrants who have been here ten or 15 years and working hard, paying their taxes, active in their church, active in the communities, parents, and we throw them out of this country. Governor Kasich's dead right on that. We have no business doing that. That inhumane policy coming from administration is just part and parcel of what he's been for the last seven months.
You forgot "illegal."
Deportations under Trump are actually less frequent than they were when compared to President Obama's pace. On the other hand, since Trump was inaugurated, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement has upped the amount of illegal immigrant arrests and attempts to cross the Mexican border illegally have dramatically decreased. Many are crediting that decline with Trump's stricter border enforcement policies.
Also of note: Under Obama, hundreds of thousands of deportation cases were swept under the rug.
Brown won't budge on the president's immigration agenda, but he told Todd that he is willing to work with Trump on NAFTA, having offered to help Trump renegotiate the deal to "put workers first."
