Bergdahl Defers Plea At Arraignment Hearing

U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl faced a military judge Tuesday morning amid serious charges of desertion, one of which leads to life in prison. The hearing lasted about 12 minutes, before Bergdahl chose to defer his plea.

In June 2009, Bergdahl disappeared from his post in eastern Afghanistan. He was taken by the Taliban and was held until May of 2014 when President Obama decided to engage in a prisoner swap: Bergdahl for five Guantanamo Bay prisoners. Yet, reports soon surfaced accusing Bergdahl of intentionally deserting his station.

Bergdahl's mysterious disappearance is apparently so intriguing that he is the centerpiece of season two of the popular podcast "Serial."

Gen. Jack Keane weighed in on the Bergdahl case on Fox News Tuesday morning.

“The army made this decision that they would never break faith with the soldier who served with distinction and honor,” Keane said.

Bergdahl, he insisted, does not fit in that category. He “disgraced the uniform.”

Bergdahl's next arraignment hearing will be January 12.
