Ryan is 'Ready' to Run for Speaker

This post has been updated.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) seems ready to run for a job he didn't want. After meeting with the three key House GOP caucuses, the former vice presidential candidate has announced he's running for speaker of the House.

Ryan sent a letter to his colleagues with his decision, telling them he is 'ready' and 'eager' to run.

Last week, Ryan rejected his colleagues' prodding, insisting he is perfectly content as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Then, earlier this week, the congressman told the press he would consider running for speaker if the House met his conditions. Namely, that he could unite the party and that he could maintain his cherished family time.

Now, after meeting with the Republican Study Committee, Tuesday Group, and the House Freedom Caucus, a very conservative group which showed the most hesitancy with a Ryan speakership, the representative is convinced that his conditions have been met.

The speaker election will be held Oct. 28.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this piece read that Ryan was a 'former vice president.' Many apologies for forgetting to follow that title with 'candidate.'
