Morrissey Says He'd Kill Donald Trump For Humanity's Safety

In an interview with German magazine Der Spiegel, British singer Morrissey said that he would kill President Donald Trump as he feels as though doing so would be beneficial for the "safety of humanity."

The Hill published a translation of the excerpt, which was originally published in German. In it, Morrissey was asked by the interviewer if he would push a button that would kill President Trump. Morrissey answered in the affirmative, but said that it had "nothing to do with [his] personal opinion" of Trump, but rather that he thinks it would be better for humanity as a whole if Trump were dead.

From The Hill

During an interview with Der Spiegel, Morrissey, the former The Smiths frontman, was asked: “If there was a button here and if you pressed on it, Trump would die dead [sic]– would you push it or not?”

The musician responded that he would push the button.

“I would, for the safety of humanity," Morrissey said. "It has nothing to do with my personal opinion of his face or his family, but in the interest of humanity I would push.”

Later in the interview, Morrissey called Trump "a vermin" and said that he was not a good leader. He also said that the American media was partly responsible for fueling the rise of Trump, who Morrissey thinks is self-centered and likes to see his name and image in print.

I know no magical button that would kill President Trump exists, but this is still both a strange thing to ask in an interview and also a pretty inappropriate answer by Morrissey. Trump is not Adolf Hitler or Pol Pot or Josef Stalin or Saddam Hussein. He is not rounding up people and putting them into camps. He has not poisoned his own citizens with chemical weapons. Sure, some of his ideas are a little unorthodox, but saying humanity would be better off with him dead is a bit hysterical.
