Roy Moore's attorney Trenton Garmon had a bizarre moment on MSNBC on Wednesday, where he suggested that host Ali Velshi's "background" could help him understand why Moore would date younger woman. Garmon was asked by Stephanie Ruhle to explain why Moore would request permission from the mothers of his dates if they weren't underage, to which he replied that "Culturally speaking, there's differences."
Garmon then said, "I looked up Ali’s background, and wow, that’s awesome that you have got such a diverse background, it’s really cool to read through that." He also stated that people of Velshi's "background" have arranged marriages when they are young that are "consensual marriage."
Velshi is of Indian descent and was raised in Toronto. Ruhle appeared none too pleased with Garmon's suggestion, and called him out for it.

On Twitter, Velshi thanked Ruhle for sticking up for him during the segment.

After the interview concluded, Velshi and Ruhle reacted on screen to Garmon's inappropriate and strange line of questioning.
"I feel sad for the people of Alabama, who are trying so hard to get to get out from under a completely unfair stereotype, and then were taken right back in to 'well, you people are from some different parts and we live a different way here,'" said Ruhle.

She added that "we believe in the rule of law" in this country, regardless of what culture or community they belong to, and that sexual misconduct is against the law.
This certainly isn't making Moore look any better. If this is the best attorney he can find, well, he's got more problems than the allegations against him. This is embarrassing for the GOP, Alabama, and the Moore campaign.
