Former Fox News host Meghan McCain has joined "The View" on ABC, it was announced by current "The View" host Whoopi Goldberg. Goldberg praised McCain as "fearless," had as someone who has "got some maverick in her." Goldberg also lauded McCain's father, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) as a hero "on the battlefield and in D.C." McCain left Fox in September. She replaces Jedidiah Bila, who left "The View" in September after joining the show a year before.

McCain started off by saying that she was excited to provide a conservative point of view on the show, and she said that she was honored to sit in "this chair that Elisabeth Hasselbeck made so great." (Hasselbeck was on the show from 2003 until 2013.) She thanked Whoopi Goldberg for serving as a mentor for her and for being so helpful to younger women in the industry.

Sen. McCain tweeted that he was excited to watch his daughter's first day, saying that he was "very proud."

Congrats on the new gig, Meghan!
