Steve Scalise Readmitted to ICU

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) has been readmitted to the ICU after contracting an infection at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He is now in "serious" condition.

Previously, Scalise was reported to be in "fair" condition. He was initially moved out of the ICU on June 23, nine days after being shot in the hip while at baseball practice in Alexandria, VA for the upcoming Congressional Baseball Game. Scalise was the most badly wounded in the shooting and is the only person who remains in the hospital.

The shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, was a former campaign volunteer for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and hater of Donald Trump and most things involving the Republican Party. Hodgkinson was killed at the scene by a member of Scalise's security detail. The FBI declared that Hodgkinson acted alone, and that his actions were not considered to be terrorism, and that he had purchased his guns legally in his home state of Illinois.

After the shooting, the Congressional Baseball Game had record ticket sales and raised over $1.5 million for charity. Lawmakers on each team wore LSU apparel in honor of Scalise's home state and alma mater and came together before the game to pray for his recovery.

Another update on Scalise's health and condition will be provided by MedStar Washington Hospital Center on Thursday, July 6.

In the meantime, please keep Rep. Scalise and his family in your prayers.
