Petition Asking Pope Francis to Bless the DC Metro System

Pope Francis arrived in DC at 4 p.m. today, and some are hoping he might be able to help solve one of the city's biggest woes: its transportation system.

A petition on Change.org asking the pontiff to bless the WMATA has garnered over 1,000 signatures in under one day.

Dear Pope Francis,

Our Metro system is having some troubles. All of DC would be grateful if you could find the time to bless it during your upcoming stay. Maybe a Papal Blessing is just what it needs.

While the metro has been under scrutiny for a while, yesterday was particularly bad and commuters were met with lengthy delays. With lots of road closures due to the papal visit, some have dubbed the potential transit mess as the "Popocalypse" or "Popegeddon."

There is no scheduled papal blessing of the metrorail system during his time in Washington.
